GA-H67A-USB3-B3 not firing up.
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:04:25 pm »
Hi Guys & Dolls,

I've just removed an old Gigabyte 965 MoBo with dual core CPU and DDR2 ram and fitted a GA-H67A-USB3-B3 with i5 CPU and DDR3 ram.

I cannot get anything to work.

The board is sitting on its box with the PSU and Monitor connected and just one stick of ram.  There is 3.3V on the power switch header pins (the power supply works fine with green and ground shorted) but will not fire up.  There are no lights to be seen anywhere.

Hi

Have you installed the CPU/heatsink/fan onto the motherboard ?

Have you inserted the EATX 12v plug near the CPU ?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, the CPU/fan is fitted.  I have removed and checked if fitted correctly and all seems fine  (yes, I did clean and repaint with arctic whatsit!)

Yes, both 12V connectors are fitted.

You have a memory module in DDR3_1 for booting ?

Have you tried swapping it with another module in case it is faulty ?

Have you inserted the 24 pin connection to the motherboard ?

Have you fitted a buzzer/speaker to the motherboard connection for the front panel items ?

What PSU are you using ?

Thanks DM,

1  Yes, new module

2  Yes, no difference

4  Has buzzer.  No noises

5  Enermax FMA II  535W

Does this board have lamps?  Cannot see any.

Make sure that the buzzer is installed the correct way round as they are polarity concious.

If you can I would suggest trying a different PSU as it seems very funny that you have no response at all from the board.

I would also suggest clearing the CMOS although that probably wont help until it boots.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thanks DM,

Just got back from the shop.  Indigestion from humble pie!

The board worked a treat in the shop and I have concluded the problem lies with the two 4-pin connectors for the CPU power as the old board was using the 6-pin connector and am now fitting a new PSU - a CoolerMaster Pro 600 Silent.  Will post the result of the extra 100 euros later!

Thanks again.

A decent PSU is the foundations of your system and the better the power supply the more stable the system.

Thanks for your time, DM

Lots of lovely noises and whirring of fans!

Will see what its like on the desk in an hour or so but your dead right about PSUs.

I got the one that's broke exactly four years ago when I built the PC and purposely forward planned the size, its power and quietness knowing I'd be updating sometime......

Ho hum :D

Now to put the kitchen back in order before the missus gets home.  I've got 10 minutes!

Cheers again.
