GA-EP45-UD3P Disk Boot Failure, Can't Find DVD-ROM

I've done all the usual trouble-shooting steps (i.e. checked to make sure eveyrthing is plugged in, flashed the BIOS back to factory standard, etc, etc, etc).  The computer worked this morning, when I got home and turned it on, it would go through the boot cycle, then report "DISK BOOT FAILURE, PRESS ENTER TO LOAD BOOT DRIVE".  I've tried to set the board to read the DVD-ROM drive, but it won't find it (the drive does have power).

Am I missing a trouble-shooting step?

Is the time and date still set correctly in the BIOS ?  If not change the CR2032 motherboard battery.

It might  be worth trying new SATA leads.

More than likely the drive has failed.

Make sure that the optical drive is made primary boot device in the BIOS and you have a bootable disk in there.

Swapped the SATA cables, and the BIOS is reading the right time.  Sounds like a HD failure-ugh.

I must admit it is looking that way. The only thing to do is try a different known good drive.

If you can get the optical drive to work, try running a bootable hdd dignostics downloadable from the manufacturers website (asuming you have another computer) then burn to a cd.

Got the new HD in and it works...but, now, trying to get the sound to work...

Turn the volume up!

If you can give a few more precise details we might be able to help.

Glad the drive problem is fixed anyway.
