x58a-ud3r rev 2 tries to boot then goes to black screen

My 6 six month old dual os machine now won't boot. It tries 2 times then goes blank. I have reset the cmos. removed battery, updated to lastest FF bios, unplugged unnecessary usb devices. Playing with it for 2 hours I got to boot twice, but then restarted it and did the same thing. I am using Chamleon/Tonymac iboot. I will try putting in the W7 disc to see if it will boot off of that, pull out ram sticks (3 x 2), power supply "seems" fine but will try that afterwards. I appreciate your help.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Right I think the best course of action here is to remove everything attached to the motherboard and PSU except for the CPU/heatsink/fan, one stick of RAM in the first slot, buzzer. Now try to boot and post what beep code it makes.

Have you waited on the blank screen, for 3-5 minutes, to see if windows loads?  If not please try that

Thanks for the quick replys. A question regarding the buzzer, is that already built in, or do I need to pick one up? I did try pulling out 2 of the ram sticks and switching the one to different slots, but no go. I tried loading W7 with "minimum" and "optimal" settings, but tonight I will let it go the 3-5 minutes as you suggested. I can barrow a psu and dvd drvie from another machine if needed.

The buzzer is an optional extra (although I don't think it should be) so you will have to purchase one locally. They are only cheap and I can't understand why they are not bundled with the motherboards.

Try seeing if windows boots with only 1 stick of ram in the primary slot, if not try the next one + diff slots etcetc

Will do. I picked up a buzzer today. Do you know off hand where to connect it? I haven't been home yet and I can search it if you don't know off the top of your head.

found out buzzer will connect to speaker header, but I don't have the pin connectors at home, so I will pick a couple up tomorrow.

Just to be clear the buzzer connects to the FPC (Front Panel Connector) down at the bottom right hand side of the motherboard. There  are two pins with a double gap in between that are marked SPKR. The buzzer is a solid state device and as such is polarity concious so make sure that it is fitted the correct way round.

Ok, at start up I get one good beep, then one short beep, then another short beep, it starts to boot for about 5-7 seconds then one beep and instantly shuts off. It then it starts up again, two short chirps, then runs for 60-90 seconds with one chirp, then 15 seconds later 2 chirps. All the time the box is quiet, the hd is idling, no blinking of the optic drive, just the alternating one and two chirps. Windows never loads, and monitor is black (no signal), I've rebooted 3 times with "load fail-safe defaults" and "load optimized defaults" settings, and with cd rom as first boot device, with hd (new & formatted in ntfs) as second. Only things connected are monitor and keyboard.

Any ideas? What am I missing??

OK remove the optical drive and try again.

I take it that what you are hearing is a long beep followed by short beeps which would indicate a keyboard error so try swapping the keyboard out preferably with a PS2 version.

Hello, It was the Apple keyboard! I plugged in a ps2 keyboard and it loaded straight away! Thank you Dark Mantis, and lsdmeasap. I thought for sure it was something worse. Thanks again for quick replies, and excellant advice!!!!
