GA-EX58-UD3R Power Loop

Hi,

I've just got delivered a new PC setup.

Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 - (TR3X6G1333C9)
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 700w

 
I've connected all the parts together, hit the power switch, CPU and PSU fan switch on, stay on for a couple of seconds, then system turns off.  After a couple of seconds, the system tries to boot up again on it's own, with the same results.

I've done the usual procedures, disconnect everything, connect just one memory module, same result.  Disconnecting everything from the motherboard and leaving only CPU + Cooler connected results in the system staying switched on, but no error beeps to be heard from the case speaker.

Although the particular memory is not listed on the supported memory modules on Gibabyte website, but it is on Corsair website. http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=847565

I've tried:

All Memory + GFX + Power Connectors - On for a few seconds, then off, loop
One Memory + GFX + Power Connectors - On for a few seconds, then off, loop
No Memory + GFX + Power Connectors - On, no beeps, no picture
No Memory + No GFX + No 12V Power Connectors - On, no beeps, no picture
One Memory + GFX + One 12V Power Connector - On, no beeps, no picture

I'm lost, any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello. I'm having the same problem. The only difference in my set-up is:

Corsair XMS3 memory (2 x 1GB)
CORSAIR VX550W power supply

Symptoms are exactly the same... could you figure this out? I updated my BIOS recently to F11 and after that (although not sure if right after that) my mobo started developing the symptoms as you described...

I would recommend trying a more powerful psu. These boards are quite power hungry and even though they should run on a certain power supply they don't always comply!

make sure you have the memory in the correct slots,. 1, 3, and 4, do not use dimm slot 2.  Second, make sure the heatsink is mounted correctly on the processor.  If its loose at all your computer will shut down automaticly after a couple of seconds do to cpu overheating instantly.  Good luck man

I did both... problem still happening... I'll consider a RMA after I try another power supply...

When you put it all together you should have gone staight into your bios and loaded optimised default settings then rebooted...Then it will be a matter of tweaking voltages etc to get stable

problem is I cannot get into the BIOS at all... system looks like dead, except for the POST lights (all lit) and fans running, and a faint clicking sound through the motherboard speaker... I'm not doing any overclocks, so should I change voltages (If I ever get into the BIOS, that is)

I'd be glad to, but I entered the RMA request on May 19th, and no response so far...

Yes I am afraid that Gigabyte's technical department is extremely slow to respond. It took ten days for me to even get an answer off them recently. Just wait I am sure they will respond in the end, if not see if runn3R the forum moderator can help.

you might also want to check if the contact between your CPU and cooler is optimum. It might be that this board is a bit sensitive to high temperatures and when booting your CPU gets quiet hot and not cooled well directly so if I was you I would try to unmount the cooler, clean all paste well off and apply new and good quality paste on it and make sure that you cover every inch of the surface of the CPU ending with a perfect, good pressured mount of the cooler.

Can you believe i have exactly the same problem?

I noticed that if i don't plug the 12V 4pin in the top left of the board, then at least is not doing the loop.
If i plug it in, it does the loop you described and gives me a quick red light on the SB leds. Not sure if that's normal at any start or just in this case.
I also thought that my power supply may not be good enough, but it is an Antec TruePower 2.0 TP2-550 EPS12V 550W ATX12V and from what i hear, this should run a i7 without overclocking.

Hope you got your RMA and you will spend 2 minutes to update us if that has changed the situation.

I was getting nothing on boot; no beeps, just a quickly turning on and off of the main power. The odd thing was if unplugged the system would turn on for about 10 seconds, then turn off/on/off/on, but if I just rebooted the system it would happen almost immediately.  All of the fans, HDD's, and DVD-drive seemed to be working so I was really worried (I build systems for friends/family about 4 times a year so I'm not an expert, but I'm also not a newb). I got really freaked out thinking it was the CPU overheating and turning off prior to damage but I took my time with the installation.

So after spending about 3 hours this morning and getting really upset I tried to remove everything one at a time. Fan headers, extra HDD, restart button, HD activity, nothing was working.  Then I thought the ram could be the issue (again since there was no post beeps that would lend me to believe it was ram I didn't put much thought into this). After my last build almost drove me mad (1 of my 2 sticks of ram was bad), I always do the single stick in the proper slot (DDR3_1 on this mobo). I started playing musical chairs with the ram (I have a total of 8GB in 4 sticks). When I put the stick in either of the farther away ram slots DDR3_4 or DDR3_3 suddenly I was able to POST with no problem! I was so happy, until I did some more experimentation and believe both the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 slots are faulty (I can do any combo of sticks (so I know none of my ram modules are faulty) in the 3 and 4 slots, but once I try to put anything in the 1 and 2 slots the system goes back to the no POST reboot-loop).

What this means is I can't run in dual-channel mode, and am going to have to likely RMA the mobo. That is the worst feeling to know you've blown a lot of hours building a system only to have to rip it all apart to RMA the mobo.

My last chance is going to see if there is a bios update that could fix this (if it is just a ram compatibility issue and not an actual damaged mobo).

So my recommendation is to try a single stick in the farthest away slot (DDR3_3) and see if that fixes the problem like it did for me.
