Reset button causes P67A-UD4-B3 to reset overclocking to default

I have this board with a 2500k and Corsair XMS3 running at 4.6GHz and 1.6GHz respectively. This works fine during normal operation, but I've found that if I press the reset button it causes the overclocking settings in the BIOS to revert to defaults, with the board reporting "The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes in voltage. Latest settings in BIOS may not coincide with current H/W settings".

I appreciate the usefulness of settings falling back to a safe default in the event of a genuine overclocking fail, but should a reset count? I don't plan on making a habit of resetting with the button, and I know it only takes a moment to re-load a saved profile, but I'd rather it didn't do this. Is there any way to disable the board resetting defaults when the reset button is pushed? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It is not a good idea to use hte reset button on any system but some behave worse than others when it is pressed. I would advise the use of the power button if the need arises.

I would agree with nijel that on this board a BIOS update normally fixes the immediate issue.

Sorry, I should have included my current BIOS revision, I already had F3. I had checked the GB website for a BIOS update, but F4 didn't look as though it would address this problem. I've downloaded and tried F4 now and it doesn't help.

You can never tell what is addressed by the BIOS updates as they tend to not list everything at all. Bit of a pain but most motherboard manufacturers are the same.

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.
