[GA-890GPA-UD3H][Rev. 2.1] default vcore at 1.4250v on Phenom 1090T ? hot !

Hi everyone,

There is my new PC :
- Phenom 1090T
- GA-890GPA-UD3H
- XMS3 4GB
- PSU HGC520W

So,

I went to the BIOS to check temperatures and I've seen the vcore at 1.4v, by defaut (after loading fail-safe default).
My CPU is at 45°C too, which is hot.
My other mobo (asus) gave me 35°C for (if I remember well) 1.2v on vcore.

I've seen in the bios, in MB Intelligent Tweaker this line :
Normal CPU Vcore 1.4250

AMD give a range of 1.125v to 1.40v.
Is there something tricky ?

There is also some buggy display in the health status of the bios, number appearing and disappearing.

Voila, so If someone knows something and he has some time, let me know
Why am I having this ? Maybe should I set manyally the vcore ? flash the bios ?

So that thread is 2 ppl talking very shortly on the subject of a 1055t which is a different chip.  On a DFI mb it runs at about 45 always on this gigabyte i added a cooler and a good case with good airflow anad i see about 30 to 35 tops. Isnt alot of help but if you are not crashing and have no other issues id leave it at default.

There's nothing to worry about here as far as the voltages go hjar. give us a temperature reading under 100% load in Windows (Intel Burn Test is what I use to stress the CPU). If the CPU temperature goes over 55C under stress then we need to look at options such as reseating the cooler, or changing the airflow inside your case.

just to add to what has already been said, the Phenom ii CPU's, by their nature, run pretty hot.

The options to reduce the temperature are:

A good 3rd part cooler ( I use a Noctua NH-D14).  For an idea of the temperature drop gained by using a good cooler check here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,1784.0.html

Another thing to do is lower the VCore on the CPU. If you are not overclocking you should be able to pull it back to at least 1.350V but it may take a bit of trial and error to get the correct balance between lower voltage and system stability.

So,

I've run a test on prime95, I'v stopped the test at 60°C but I think it could be hotter, I'm 40-45°C idle.
I think it's strange, on my other mobo, I was 35°C and 55°C in load, maybe the compound i've spread is not working ? (arctic mx3)

CPU-Z give me a vcore between 1.168v idle and 1.296v with prime95, and sometime 1.424v a half of second.
I don't know, it seems to be ok after all ?

I've start to look some cooler yes, but they're monsters

Yes I can understand that but, as long as you follow any instructions carefully, it is not too difficult!

I have a system very similar to yours.

I do not believe the BIOS CPU temperature reading. The reading is from the ITE IT8720F chip and I THINK is incorrect. Try running multiple temperature programs and see what they say.

On my system the BIOS says Vcore is 1.42 V and the CPU temp is 44 degrees (the computer has just woken from S3 overnight standby).

Using a monitoring program like HWInfo32 shows that there are TWO readings of CPU temps. (1) from the BIOS/8720F chip of 44 degrees, and (2) a reading of 25 degrees from the on-die 8090T CPU chip. I believe the on-die reading.

A second monitoring program (CPUID HW monitor) also shows the lower 25 degree readings for each of the 6 cores.

Speedfan also shows the lower 25 degree reading (though it also shows the higher 44 degree reading).

So - the BIOS reading of CPU tempature is some 13 degrees higher that the on CPU reading for my board (and yours?).

yes in fact, aida64 give me 36°C and when I run its stress test, I'm 56°C.
Hwmonitor give me only core temperatures, which are cooler.
The vcore is pretty low as well.

But, when I go into the bios (where I've looked in the first place  ), the temperature increase very quicly to 45°C, and tell me 1.4v for the vcore.
Maybe there is no cool n quiet when I'm in the bios ?

Still, prime95 raise the temperature to more than 60°C, so I need a cooler
I don't know, but I wouldn't get above the 62°C max given by AMD.

I've started to check some, unfortunately I'm limited below 16 centimeters in height by the case.

I've looked the ZALMAN CNPS10X Performa, which is 152mm in height (a bit fine), 45 euros and I'll have the possibility to turn it into a push/pull with a second 120mm.

Maybe you know something better for the same price, I'm still looking for.

I think it is the CORE temp you should be concerned with! After all that is the only temp that AMD has under its control and (if I am not mistaken) is the temp that they (AMD) quote and which they measure their manufacturing processes for.

The other CPU temperature depends on where GIGABYTE decided to place their sensor and is completely out of AMDs control.

This is not to say that the other CPU temperature is unimportant - but it should not be the one you use to compare to the AMD maximum temperature limit.

In my system - after a full day of operation - and with an hour or two of Mass Effect 2 - the temps are:

AMD current = 25, min = 15, max = 45
Gigabyte current = 38, min = 29, max =56

For ships* and grins i checked mine in bios it is cpu 35c and system 32c. I use a haf 932 with all cables run behind motherboard for max airflow and a zalman 9700 led.

Hi thanks for the update and it just goes to show what a 3rd Party cooler can do for your temps.

Another thing to consider to help lower temperatures further is, if you are not overclocking your system, lowering the CPU Vcore a little, that always helps.
