H70 Clamps
« on: May 19, 2011, 07:12:18 pm »
Hello all, Absic had mentioned in a post about the h70 that it was a good idea to put clamps on the hoses to prevent leakage. Any specific reccomendations on what to use?

Hi there,

I remember that..... See I'm not really that old!  :D

We were talking about the issue that Soar had with his H50 that sprang a leak from the pipes connected to the CPU block and I suggested adding clamps. My idea was to add a couple of cable ties around the pipes on the CPU block to hopefully prevent problems.

Hi

Yes you could use a couple of cable ties on each hose or jubilee clips or any number of other hose clips that are avaiable.

Hi

The problem with using jubilee clips or something similar on the H50 and H70 coolers is the fact that the whole cooler is a sealed unit. Unlike other water cooling solutions, where you are able to remove the pipes, on these coolers you can't easily do that. Therefore you are limited to what you can use to add a little bit of security to the pipes where they connect to the CPU Block and Radiator.

Hi absic. That really isn't a problem as you can open jubilee clips right up to put around a hose and then bring the two ends together again.

Ah! I haven't used jubilee clips for ages and the ones I remember used to be practically impossible to open all the way.  :P

Well as you say there are plenty of alternatives to the metal jubilee clips nowadays. It's just that they are probably the most secure and some people trust them more.

Agreed, they would be my first choice too, just hadn't realised that you can open them all the way!  ;)

Yes iof you keep unscrewing them they will open totally in the end. To refit you just need to put the male end into the female and apply a bit of pressure until the screw thread catches as you are turning it.  Something about actress and bishop sprung to mind there. ;D
