« on: May 18, 2011, 02:22:27 pm »
specs:
i7-950processor
GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0
kingston 6GB 1333MHz non-ecc cl9 dimm memory
wd 1tb sata-6gb/s 7200rpm 64mb hard drive
samsung black 24x sh-S243D/bebe burner
Eah5770cucore/2di/1g video card
m12ii-620brongze seasonic power supply
windows 7 pro 64bit oem

system was built in december 2010
first issue was sleep mode issues which was then turned off
customer has returned with the following issues:

devices in device manager missing
loss of internet connection
software not installing properly
peripherals won't install properly
pinnacle software will only load at 53%
the version is pinnacle 14, which installs on our systems but not hers

things i've tried:
ran diags using pc check diagnosis, everything passed testing
1tb on sata 6gbs port and burner on 3gbs port
removed hard drive and burner and replaced them to try a fresh install of windows 7, after second restart freezes at bios post screen,
removed cmos for 30 seconds to reset it, tried reinstall again and system proceeded with no issues untill loading pinnacle software, within opening the software system hung un-responsive, only mouse would move, then system would just restart itself
tried another hard drive and sata cable and different sata ports this time using just the sata 3gbs ports, did reinstall again and after second restart would again freeze at bios screen

does anyone know what this could be, i can try some ram but it's kingston and it already passed testing on the system prior to reinstalling.
took out cpu to see if bent or missing pins in the socket, no bent or missing pins. hard drive fine as i was able to test it with no issues and clone data over to another hard drive
ran diags

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I read through your dialogue and you seem to have covered most of the usual things ok.  The hard drive though I notice is put on the SATA3 port controlled by the Marvell 9128 controller chip. This could well be causing you problems as this chip never performed as promised. This is a Marvell problem not Gigabyte.

I would suggest moving the drive to the Intel ICH10R controller ports(Southbridge) as they are in fact faster and more reliable. I think it is quite possible that you are suffering from data corruption.

Have you tried it on SATA2_0 ?

GSATA3_6 and 7 are the Marvell controlled ports and GSATA2_8 and 9 are controlled by J Micron chip. The SATA2_0 to SATYA2_5 are the Intel ports.

it's ok we have a replacement board coming in, built several with this board with no issues, so it's board related.
