If you think you know everything...there's always someone out there ready to prove you wrong
The second is usually the Expert , ... The first is always the egg-spurt
. Some of the smartest people Ive ever met, know a little bit about most things with oodles of common sense...........The idiots were highly qualified Experts in there fields with not a shred of common sense!
But back to your head scratch......
I don't know the VGA card in question but generally modern cards carry enough on-board memory now that, my understanding is it would make very little difference to the cards performance in video gaming say.....it all depends on what your doing at the time and what app or programs running.
Years ago there was an emphasis on dedicating some OS memory towards subsidising video memory to improve performance because Memory was expensive......so let's use somebody elses .........GPU architecture and it,s memory have improved to such an extent now that the tables have now turned.
Adobe PhotoShop CS5 now uses GPU and its Memory to accelerate performance of the CPU substantially ....... Mercury/Cuda support in Nvidia cards is key to utilizing this feature... (GTX-460 Minimum)......you just have to look at the now upgraded "Performance Tab" in Photoshop and its many features to realize that there's some real gains to be had here........and it works.....Big time!
Going back to your defective Module again.......would it affect performance.maybe..........it would depend on how much memory you have on board, how much is being utilized, what slot it was in and what program you had running.........eventually it would have an impact on your system.......replace it.
