P67X-UD3-B3 i2500k keeps turning on
« on: May 19, 2011, 08:22:03 pm »
Hello.
I have following problem: After getting new motherboard, CPU, memory for my system and installing them,
system does not want to turn off. Any time, that i am using shut down from windows, its shutting down, but then immediately starts up again.
Same true for a sleep and hibernation mode.
All Wake-On from all hardware parts are disabled in Windows and in BIOS.
Whan you hold power button for 5 seconds, system shuts down, but after 1-2 seconds - starts up again by itself.
Please help me to understand if that can be an issue with a motherboard, or a PSU in this case ?

Thanks.

Hi

Well the first thing I would advise is to disable all the power saving modes in the BIOS. Try that and post back if it's still the same.

OK. After changing virtually any part came out, that the wire, that comes from the case into MB, and turns on the power (power switch) have some kind of strange problem and probably switch in the case it short, and randomly signalls into MB, that button uis pressed, when its not.
Now my system is staying in shut down mode correctly.
Bu I still have issues when boot the system after the shut down.
It shows the screen, that overclocking failed, resets all overclocking settings, and resets itsef few times.
Also, PC is unable to restore from hybernate / Sleep mode. I read that the new MBs have this issue though.

Good news that you found the switch problem although not that unusual. They use cheap switches in the main and it's not unknown for them to fail or short.

I would say that your current problems are simply down to your system not being 100% stable. This is probably just down to your overclock but I would check it oput thoroughly at stock settings first.

Thats what strange there: even if i keep all the speeds at defaults, and all setting at default, after shutting down the system, first boot always shows this message.
I dont know what to think :(

Well I would update the BIOS to the newest version and then load Optimised BIOS Defaults before saving and exiting. Then synchronise both BIOSes to match each other.

The P67 boards had a problem with this and whilst it still functions it doesn't give you any feedback as it should. Try this:

Reboot and where you would normally press DEL to enter the BIOS, instead press Alt + F12, this will flash the Backup BIOS with the MAIN BIOS contents.   Do not worry when you see a recovery comment, that is normal and means it is flashing the backup BIOS

OK. I flashed the 2nd BIOS with main BIOS data, but still getting that overclock failed error, when PC is starting after shutdown.
Issue with Sleep was fixed by disabling Hybrid sleep in power options of Windows 7.

It might be worth clearing the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

OK. Here is an update: Sleep and Hybernation are still broken. They work ok if you wake PC right away after putting it into sleep mode, but when you do let him stay down for several minutes, its unable to come to windows screen. It tuns on, fans are spinning, but screen stays blank, and the only thing to do from that point on - use power button.
And the solution, suggested for shut down issue does not work too :((
Still getting overclock failed screen every time.

Welll it could be down to the PSU.  Actually a list of your components would be a help.
