Capacitor Whine

Hi guys!

I've had my 890GPA-UD3H rev.1 for just over a year now and in the last few months I have noticed an annoying noise coming from my system. After much testing I have found out that it is capacitor whine coming from the board, so I would like to RMA it. Been really impressed with the board so far and am a fan of Gigabyte products!

The only thing is, I work as a hardware reviewer, so being without a motherboard could cause problems. Is there any way of working it so that I would not have to go without a motherboard and I back up my claim with my test results, so I could send it back after I get a replacement. If not, how fast do you reckon the process should take.

Sorry for being awkward but I cannot go without my system for very long due to my job!

Hi Jake and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The normal proceedure for an RMA is to contact the retailer that you purchased it from and then you can see what you can work out with them.

Thanks for the quick reply! That is where it gets complicated! I basically bought the board off of an OcUK reviewer. The way their reviews work is that they simply take a product out of their warehouse and send it to the reviewer. So don't worry, it's not a review sample you have sent, just a product from the OcUK warehouse with no proof of purchase as the director essentially 'gives' the reviewer the product.

So for that reason I can't return it to OcUK as it came without an order number. Pretty annoying! If you can't do it I will probably put up with the noise and get a different coloured board to go with my upcoming case mod for Bulldozer or Sandy Bridge if I win the lottery  . Hopefully I can review an AM3 board for eTeknix. Although I wouldn't feel comfortable with going for a different brand- I love Gigabyte for your quality!

Well I would suggest a couple of things first.

Try a different BIOS version, newer if possible as sometimes these can stop the noise.

Try contacting  returns@gbt-tech.co.uk   RMA section UK and see if they are willing to help you.
