Hi

great as the GTX 480 SE 3 fan cooler may look I find it rather lacking. Is it possible to use the Zalman or Artic Cooling GPU coolers with this card ?

Has anyone tried ?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I am sure that some of the aftermarket coolers would fit onto your GPU fine although I haven't tried myself although I have a similar problem as I watercool my cards.

I was going to try changing the TIM as looking at the side of the card it seems have a lot on it.

Although I guess this would mean I lose warranty.

Technicaly removing the fan cover will invalidate your warranty. The TIM is generally not the best quality and in my view they also put too much on to. If you are going to change it try using something like Arctic Silver 5 and just about a size of a grain of rice in the centre.
