Is my P67A-D3-B3 broken/incompatible?
« on: June 27, 2011, 07:21:39 pm »
Hi

I purcased this system today.

Gigabyte P67a-d3-b3 (f3 lastest bios installed)
Kingston 2x4 gb 1600MHZ DDR3 "KHX1600C9D3K2/8G" (not xmp ready)
i5 2400 sandy bridge
500W C.MASTER PSU

And i'm still using my old GPU Ati HD3580.

When pc starts it hangs up on memory test stage at least 10 secs and rams not running at 1600 mhz out of the box they are 1333mhz. I set the timings and voltage as described at kingston website but problem still persist. After that I set everything default (1333mhz) and still get hang ups. Sometimes pc completely freezes at win7 loading screen.

Also i tried with one stick and problem persist. I tried every combination with the hardware (hdd out, dvdrw in etc.) and different ram modules (xmp ready G.Skill ripjaws 2gb 1600 mhz single stick) and problem remains. i know some mainboards could be broken out of the box but i didn't expect something like this from gigabyte which was my favourite mb brand.

This is a nightmare.

Thank u

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Well it could be any number of things causing this at the moment so let's try and elliminate some.

The PSU is a little on the low side power wise. Is it brand new ? If  not how old ?

Was this an old case that you have re-used ?

Are you sure that al the power cables are connected ? That's 24 pin and 8 pin to the motherboard and whatever the GPU requires ?

Have you got a buzzer installed ? If not get one.

My case and PSU is brand new only my hdd(4 years) and GPU card (3 years) is old.

I have connected these cables + 12v atx cable (4pin at the top) and there is no more room for extra power cable on the board.

GPU uses 6 pin cable.

And i got a buzzer installed already.

So what BIOS beep codes do you get when booting ?

Just single beep (Everything is ok beep).

Than system gets laggy at the memory test stage.

He said he has inserted that Pierre.

Check your stock cooler carefully they have a habit of one of the legs coming loose and then they don't make a proper contact and the CPU shuts down from thermal protection.

Actually Pierre, the module is in the correct slot. They have swapped it all around on these new boards and now number one slot is on the outside of the board. I really don't know why the suddenly decided to do this but it is the same on the AMD platform too. :-\

i guess i found out whats wrong. My new case suppose to be 500w but i noticed its 500w peak and actually 360w. And when  i unplug all usb cables pc boots fine. i think my 2 tb wd disk was causing this delay (coming back from sleep mode) and crashes causing by low power psu. What do u think?

Yes quite possibly. Are your Western Digitals the Green variety?

It was mainly down to the lack of power though I am sure. Make sure that you purchase a good quality PSU like a Seasonic, Enermax, Corsair, Gigabyte or one of the other well respected makes. I would suggest about 650W is a good all round size and if possible with a single 12v rail.

It's western elements 2tb but i have never had this kind of delay on my old mainboard. This is weird i hope they fix it via next bios.

Just look on it as a wake up call. The PSUs in cases are normally cheap and nasty and if you are not lucky they go down and take half of your good components with them. At least yours was brought to your notice and you can now replace it before it damages anything else.

If it is a Green drive it has nothing to do with the BIOS simply that it is a design feature of these drives that they allways try and power down at any opportunity. This is fine as far as energy saving goes but is a pain in nearly every other way.

I disabled Mass storage from the bios and pc boots 10x faster now. I thinking about getting a new PSU.
Would you suggest this PSU? http://www.xilence.net/en/products/power-supplies/modular-series/product/242437.html
Thank u for your help.
