X58A-UD3R and Intel Core i7-950 Overclocking Problem?
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:42:13 am »
Problem : Ok, so im trying to Overclock my i7-950 @ 3.07ghz (Already successfully overclocked to 3.4ghz), to around 4.0ghz. So, i was like "Ok, i know how to do this..." Go into BIOS, OC it to 3.6, and a Blue light comes on next to the DDR3 memory, but only when i go past 3.5ghz (yes, tested it on 3.55, and 3.5). Anything below is ok, and no light appears. I've got 6gb DDR3 RAM.

Cooling And Power: I have the H50 water cooling, no temps are above 40*C at any time, so i dont think its heat, and i have a 700W Corsair PSU, of which im only using 500W max (gonna SLI two GTX 560 Ti's very soon, so +115W  ;D ) even then ill still have extra power, so i dont think its a power issue either.
Looked in the manual, cant find anything, so thought i'd post it here.

BIOS: BIOS specs are as follows:
CPU Clock Ratio : 24x
CPU Frequency : 3.40ghz (142 x 24)
QPI Link Speed : 5.11ghz
Uncore Freq : 2556mhz
BCLK Frequency(MHZ) : 142
System memory Multiplier : 6.0
Memory Frequency (MHZ) : 1066      852

If you need anymore info, just ask and ill give it to you.
And if i screwed up anywhere, sorry, first post =P

     Awesomedude2142......welcome to the forum

I have the same board and CPU.........the only colour you need to worry about is "RED".....Just about any board and CPU of this calibre will get to 4ghz with water...........how far over this figure will depend on your skill level and Luck!......I say luck because depending on the CPU you ended up with .....you could get to 4.1ghz or maybe  4.8 ......the 950s clock like champions but some do better then others.........the only figures I know of is 1 in 6 will get to 4.6 stable.........hope this answers your question

Yes as Allan said little blue LEDs are nothing to worry about. Just play around and see what you can clock it up to, anything is a bonus. You should be able to go quite far on water if it is setup right.

Alright, OC'ed to 3.6ghz just fine, been running for 3 days constantly so far without any problems. Blue light still bugs the crap outta me... >:(
Gonna OC to 3.8ghz either today or tomorrow.
Also, would you guys recommend any Volt increases to the CPU? I know it raises temps, and increases performance, but would it be worth it at this point? Thanks

Hi

You only need to increase the voltage when it falls over. While it is stable just leave it as it is. When it no longer will do as you want at that voltage you will need to increase it a touch.
