Gigabyte Z68X-UD7-B3 problem with ocz vertex 3 MI
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:38:23 pm »
I have Gigabyte Z68X-UD7-B3 and I have connected to the motherboard ocz vertex 3 120gb max iops and connected the ssd in sata 3 port. The problem is that speed is only 280 MB/s. Speed should be 550 MB /s. It is possible that the defect in sata 3 port?

I hope not!......this issue was supposedly fixed in Z68 platform........I take it your using the Marvell port?.......can you post exactly the printed code on the Marvell chip please?

 Now back to your problem

 1) did you load OS under ACHI and running ACHI on this SSD to get those Benches

 2) How exactly did you load the Marvell Drivers?........during the OS install or under windows environment

 3) Are you using ATTO to get those figures?......If not could you download and run ATTO to see what comparison we can get.....Post both figures and what you used in the first place

Hi

Firstly what reported the figures you are quoting was it ATTO ?

As Allan has already asked you did you run Windows setup in AHCI mode or IDE ?

Well all the programs seem to concur within a broad spectrum then by the looks of it. The figures do seem to be low especially the read ones.

What port have you got it connected to ?

Have you got Native IDE enabled ?

Is the firmware the latest one for the drive ?

Sorry to hop in here DM.....

alpha1 .........The Intel port you are using is the ICH10R.....Sadly it's only SATAII.....not SATAIII.......

With the speeds you quoted, it seems you have an underlying problem as you should be getting better speeds even off the Intel port, ....your writes seem OK-ish but your read speeds are rather low..........which will probably follow you through when you connect it up to the correct port for this SSD.

The Marvell port is SATAIII and is the better port for the SSD you have, as the Marvell problems of past have apparently been rectified on the Z68 platform if configured correctly with the right drivers.......pick a benchmark you like and stick with it, different software will always give different results.......it's confusing enough without trying to figure out why there so far apart

I use ATTO as it's robust, consistent and used widely by OCZ users and staff.......it's apparently a little kinder to SSDs then some but still should be used sparingly.........SSD efficiency goes south with constant benching no matter which one you use..........hope this helps!

Yes I am afraid that Allan is a bit off track here. These boards have SATA3 6GBs from both the Marvell and Intel chips. As long as the OP has it connnected to the correct Intel controlled port it should be SATA3 performance.

SATA3_0 is the right port and should be giving SATA3  support. See page 7

  Yup! just finished reading the manual......Intel with 6Gb/s ......have to read up tonight me tinks.........I still stick to there's an underlying problem there though.........and gigabyte SATA now controlled by Marvell 88SE9128 :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o.......could be worth putting the SSD on the GSATA just to see if it performs any better.
