Hi,

Yes I have a buzzer (I purchased a Main board testing switch set), the odd time it does 1 beep ( 1 in 50ish) it then freezes, odd time it doesn't freeze it then reaches the bios screen but i cannot do anything with either keyboard.  btw it is still switching on & off since i booted it to take the video

thanks

Will

(thanks for your help it is very much appreciated, I will be afk for for the next 20 hours or so, sleep & work)

It would be worth checking for bent pins on the CPU socket also.

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

Hi,

I will do as you say probably Friday or definately Monday depending on work commitments.

Today I fitted a friends ram in and it is just the same, it seems though that if I leave the battery out overnight and all day whilst at work it boots for a little longer after 2 to 3 attempts, ie windows starts but then freezes.

thanks again

Will

If you remove all the memory what BIOS beep code do you get from your buzzer ?

it varies as earier post says

I tried it with no memory in and it it does the no memory beep sometimes, but most of the time it just restarts without any beeps over & over.

Will

Actually sometimes I get the single beep with no ram in, then I had 12 short & 1 long beeps, then 9 short & 1 long beeps, then 1 short & 1 long beep, then 1 long beep amongst others on start up, but again not every time as it just loops on for 3 secs off, then on......

I think that we have covered just about every angle and as your board still seems to be throwing up faults that can only be described as variable I would suggest RMAing it. Contact your retailer and get a RMA number to enable you to return it to them.

I am afraid that company is not renouned for it's helpfulness in the after sales side of the business. ::)

Well I made a webnote on Friday to Oveclockers and I got an RMA number.  Then I posted it Friday afternoon.  To top off a bad week I left my mini usb reciever in the board :-[(plonker!!) ::).  I used the Overclockers forum customer service & informed them.  Anyway a new motherboard arrived Monday at 1pm & 2 hours later I have my PC back, all working great and they posted my mini usb back with the motherboard.  So I am really happy with the service I received from them.

Thanks for your help

Will

Well that is great news indeed and a feather in the cap of Overclockers this time. I'm glad it all turned out well and your computer is now working properly. ;)
