GDA-870A-UD3 Continuous Long Beeps Problem?
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:03:47 am »
So, I built my own system with this motherboard with ease, utilizing 16GB's of RAM (kingston) and it has not failed me to this day. I was normally a ASUS fan, until I ordered 3 motherboards with each one failing after another and having to return them, so I made the switch to Gigabyte :).  I just bought the exact same motherboard and RAM, because I by accident ordered too much RAM the same exact RAM (16 GB's of Kingston) is in the second build which will be my step dads computer. I am using a different video card in it, but no matter which one I try I get the continuous long beeps.

-I have reseated the RAM, left only two sticks in, on the blue slots, swapped PSU's from another computer, triple checked all cables to ensure nothing was connected improperly, and the thing still beeps continuously.

I got a huge break when I switched the video card from a nVidia to a ATI and it went past the BIOS screen, with me pressing F12, I was able to boot off the disc only to the end of the "Windows Loading Files" (I was booting off a Windows 7 CD) and so it froze right there, at the end. I booted the computer up again, it started giving me beeps again. Do you guys think this may be a CPU overheating problem?, it's a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (i have the same in this computer that is mine). I matched all the cable connections from my motherboard to the other one that's screwed and nothing is done improperly. I thought I was sure I put enough thermal paste on my step dads computer's CPU, and i turned the bolts on the bottom of the heatsink so that they were semi tight, but not incredibly tight, I just dont know if it's not tight enough. Tommorow I will reseat the cpu and see what happens. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi there,

the first thing I would do is check the RAM and the easiest way to do this, in your case, is probably to swap it with the RAM from your good PC, also, try just one stick at a time.

The issue is more likely to be with a faulty RAM Module rather than the CPU overheating but, if you are in any doubt, it would be safer to reseat the heatsink, just to make sure. You might like to look through this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,5704.msg45814.html#msg45814 as I go into putting a new PC together and it might give you some ideas for further trouble shooting steps.

Hi

If you get nowhere with absic's advice try following these instructions exactly

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Ok thank you all for all the suggestions, but the main problem, which even though isnt something ive encountered before, was the heatsink for the cpu was not fully screwed in because i forgot to put the rubber washers in, without these put in the heatsink could not stay tight, even though i tightened them in the first place. So once I reseated the CPU, put the washers in, and turned the computer on it didnt beep at all and i was able to boot off my windows 7 disc and install windows. Just to clarify from before, I did actually reseat the RAM in the first place as I mentioned in the first post, it didnt do anything. But thank you all again, the cpu was just overheating, no problem with a video card not inserted correctly as the manual said it was.
