How to set AHCI in the BIOS?

Hello Everybody!

I have an Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H and a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H.  They both only has a single HDD but INTEL recommend that some use RAID to avoid switching problems if one already have Windows installed.  My machines are dual-boot running FreeBSD, PcBSD or Windows-7.

I can't find any info on what to set.  For instance , this link tell you to turn it on but they never said what to trun on.  Gigabyte has a lot of options below, and this link is about all most will say after googling for hours.

What is the minimum and the maximum settings I can do here for my situation.

Hi there,

Not sure exactly what it is you're trying to achieve but if you want to use AHCI Mode then the best option would be to set the OnChip SATA Controller to AHCI and then make sure your HDD is attached to one of the SATA3_0 - SATA3_3 ports. Even if your HDD is only SATA2 you can safely enable the SATA3 Support.

If you have already installed Windows in IDE Mode then you will have a problem with getting it to BOOT unless you tweak the registry first. This is pretty easy to do and you can check that out here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=313676

It is often better to leave your DVD/CD drive in IDE Mode and this would be best if attached to one of the GSATA ports and you leave this in IDE mode.
