2 core to 4 core 570SLI-S4
« on: July 24, 2011, 04:11:02 am »
 Hello Gigebyte Peoples;
Ok:: heres to million dollar question
 ???
My friend has a GA-M57SLI-S4 motherboard Rev: Unknown . I / we are  thinking about Upgrading the CPU from a AMD Athlon FX 6400 2X Duel Core
to a AMD Athlon X4.
Now Down @ the bottom of the CPU support page for this MB it states and I quote.
          (Note) If you install an AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s); however, the frequency of AM2+ CPU will not be impacted.
 ???
What I am understanding is. That this will slow the speed of the motherboard way down.
But with a 4 core will this pick up the MTs ?,  and be  4 x 2000MTs = 80000MTs this is where I am confused, realy confused.
I built this system with the intent of future upgrades (He uses it for gaming mostly) Will this affect the gaming performance that he has now? also.
 ???

Hi there,

Before making any upgrade decision it would help if you locate the Revision number for the motherboard so that you can check for CPU Compatibility. You can find the Revision number printed in the lower left-hand corner of the motherboard.

The reality is that, when upgrading from an AM2 to an AM2+/AM3 you won't notice any real difference in motherboard speeds so it's not worth getting too hung up on these figures. You will however see an improvement with the overall CPU speed.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
