GA-X58A-UD3R: No Boot

GA-X58A-UD3R: No Boot
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:07:52 pm »
Recently bought this board and it arrived today. Got everything set up correctly to the best of my knowledge however on the LED's beside the DDR slots (the one with 2 rows and 7 led's per row), I get a green light on top row 3 and an orange light on top row 4 and nothing boots including the fans. I've tried removing all the non-essentials but the problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Hi and welcome.

The first question I have for you is have you inserted the power connection into the 8 pin 12v ATX connector on the motherboard near the CPU ?

Perhaps you could list the hardware that you have in the build.

Yes, the 8 pin and 12 pin are both connected. I've also tried using a different power supply and the same problem occurs.

Specs are:
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz
MSI GeForce GTX 470 1280MB
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB)
Corsair Force 40GB F40
Corsair TX 650W Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB

I've also tested each RAM individually in slot 1 and with just having 1 stick of RAM, the PSU and CPU connected.

What 12 pin ? There should be an 8 pin and a 24 pin connected to the motherboard .

Well I think the most likely problem is a short to ground from the motherboard. Maybe an extra board pillar in the wrong place or something like that.

Sorry, i meant 24 pin. I used the same pillars as my asus p6x58d-e which on the UD3R was marked with the circle rings (looks like solder?) around holes.

Should I try dismounting the board and running it from out of the case? Would it be possible that my i7 950 has gave in? Would that cause an error like that?

I would certainly try dismounting the motherboard.

Rremove the motherboard from the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and now I know you haven't got any graphics but try and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.
