870A-UD3 Rev3.1 - Boot into BIOS/keyboard problem
« on: July 27, 2011, 04:14:57 pm »
Hi everyone. I'm having some trouble I've never had before. If I press 'DELETE' on start up, the screen moves to a list of AHCI devices and stays there, doesn't move, doesn't go ahead, and no buttons change anything. Not only if I press 'DELETE' but if I press any button at all even just once during start up, this happens. It's really starting to get frustrating because I need to change some BIOS settings and I cannot.

My specifications are as follows:
870A-UD3 Rev3.1
G.SKILL Ripjaws X 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600
AMD Phenom II X4 955
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Fpb

Thanks in advanced to anyone who is able to give me some guidance.

Hi

The first thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

As a matter of interest, how many hard drives do you have attached in your system?

Try removing all but one HDD (also remove your DVD/CD writer if it is attached) and see if you still have the same problem and post back with the results.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Actually, this would make sense since it only started happening after I installed my Corsair F60 solid state drive.

Resetting the CMOS lets me into the BIOS, but once I've changed the settings to what I want them to be I can no longer get back into it. Same thing goes for pressing any button, it freezes at the AHCI screen.
