Gigabyte P45 UD3P Rev1.1 Odd Problem

I had this motherboard since January of 2009, the problem is that recently I took my pc apart and do some cleaning.  Install everything back to the case, my motherboard won't boot with 2 sticks of ram.  In the past I can get the ram to work by running 1 stick then go into the BIOS tweak the voltage, but this time it doesn't help.

I confirmed both sticks of ram are working because I boot with each stick individually on the DIMM slot 1 (yellow) or DIMM slot 2 (red) both working, however try to running it dual channel won't post on DIMM slot 3 and 4. 

I am thinking it could be a defective DIMM slots, but I am here for suggestions because this is the only pc I can have access to so by RMA this board meant I don't have access to Internet or other communication for a while probably avoid this as much as possible.

Firstly we need to clarify which model it is that you have there as the number that you quoted doesn't exist. There are several that are similar but if you can check and make sure please. I think it might be the GA-EP45T-UD3P but will need that confirmed before we can go any further.

Hi thanks and that is better. I think your first job is to clear the CMOS completely. Please follow these instructions exactly:

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thanks for the reply Dark Mantis, just to make sure we are in the same boat.  Do I have both of my ram sticks inside while I performed these actions or one stick?  Sorry for the silly question, thanks again.

you can leave both your RAM modules in whilst performing the clear CMOS procedure.

Still no go, I think I should contact Gigabyte on RMAing the motherboard.

Hi

It might just be worth trying this first as it will flash the Main BIOS with the Backup BIOS and hopefully if there was any corrution in the Main BIOS it will clear it. You may find it will take a few attempts to master it.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

Or in other words

1. Turn off PSU from wall
2. Hold case power button in and turn on at wall.
3. As soon as board shows signs of life turn off at wall.
4. Turn on at wall again and press power button.
