GA-790XTA-UD4 Temperature?

Hi,
I have some questions about temperature of this motherboard. I noticed that NB cooler is very hot, unlike others (SB for example) so I need advice on what to do? Do I change thermal paste and would that cancel product guarantee? What is the max temp. of NB which shouldn't be crossed and still to be on a safe side that my motherboard wont stop working?
My biggest problem is that I can't read NB temperature in Aida/Everest because there is only shown MB temperature and that's it, but where is that sensor located?
HW Monitor shows TMPIN0, TMPIN1 and TMPIN2 but I still don't know what are these?! Because TMPIN2 is the highest, I think that sensor is somewhere near NB but I'm not sure. BTW that temp rarely crosses 40°C so should I be worried?

Hi

I really wouldn't be worried as 40C isn't high for a Northbridge on any board.

If you take the heatsink off to replace the TIM then you will invalidate the warranty.

I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly where the sensor is but as you suggest it sounds like somewhere near the NB.

I did some testing in a room without air conditioning and using LinX and the max temp. was 51°C, at least that sensor showed! I touched NB heatsink and it was really hot. This temperature maybe isn't high but I still don't like how hot it is when touched especially because I read on some forums that to much heat on NB could damage it and thus damaging the motherboard. I would really like to remove heatsink and put some proper thermal paste but if that would void the warranty I'm kind of scr*wed, am I?

The only other thing you could do is to fit a dedicated fan pointing directly towards the Northbridge heatsink.

Hi there,

The temps you are getting are nothing to worry about. I ran this board for ages and really abused it with lots of testing and reconfiguring and, when I finally upgraded, I gave it to my son who has been using it for almost 12 months now.

The NB Temps will, of course, be dependent on your hardware and what you are actually doing on the system. If you have a decent Graphics Card and are watching video or playing games teh Temp will rise. It will also get hotter if you are overclocking the CPU or RAM.

You can remove the NB and replace the thermal paste, if you believe it will help and, as long as you are careful, there shouldn't be a problem. Warranty for motherboards is 3 years from date of manufacture so you will have to consider if the possible benefits of removing the NB Heatsink and replacing the thermal paste is really worth the possible loss of your remaining warranty.
