I have run an UPS unit for very many years and it has got me out of trouble on very many occasions. Obviously if you have an unreliable power grid then it is a must. They don't just provide a safe backup power supply though as they also make sure that the incoming power is clean and sanitised. A stable and conditioned input supply can be more important than most people realise. Even small peaks and troughs orto much ripple whilst not dangerous can have an detrimental effect on the stability of the system.
