Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1536MB OC (GV-N580UD-15I) Freeze, driver crash.

Hello.

I've been having the same problem as many other with the same GPU.
But i havent figured out how to fix it yet.
I've been having the driver crashes, green screen when playing video, random flickering in games and the newest addition is this pixel frenzy on youtube.

The current setup in MSI Afterburner is the following.

I've also tried to downgrade to reference card setup:

None of this seems to work, still get that flickering on youtube, i havent tried playing games yet but it will probably be the same.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
And do i have to restart my computer every time i change settings in Afterburner?

My setup is the following.
Mobo: MSI P67A-GD65 REV B3
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3,3GHz
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE BLUE
PSU: Corsair TX 850W V2 80+ Bronze
And i use the newest drivers from Nvidia: 285.38 for Battlefield 3.

Would appreciate the help very very much!

Hi

I don't know for sure but my first thought would be voltage or at least a lack of it. But your voltage looks high enough . It is though very unstable and is nothing like a smooth voltage that I would expect to see.

What PSU are you using and what other components are in the system ?

Thats my thought too.
And another thing, i did the clean install of the drivers according to this guide: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169555&hl
And the thing is, that everything works after this, but for brief period, anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Then things go back to crashing and acting stupid.

As i wrote in my first post my PSU is a Corsair TX 850W V2 80+ Bronze.
When these tests were made it was running a couple of Fractal Design Quiet Series fans, 1 SSD disc, 2 HDDs and the GPU.

The power supply is a good quality one but that doesn't stop it from breaking down and having problems. That can happen to the very best. That would be my first component to test anyway. If you can try another one at least you will be able to remove it from the list of possibilities.

That seems not to be the problem.
I got a MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr II today and plugged it in and are going with SLI.
Even tho the Gigabyte is the master, everything seems to work?

I have no idea how this is working but the MSI card seems to slap the Gigabyte card and telling it to get a grip :D

But if anyone has any idea what the earlier problem can be i still could use the help, the problems may come back.

Edit: One other thing, i bought every component in the computer 2½ months ago, so nothing is old and worn out in the computer.

Well it is possibly the graphics memory that is causing the problem and now with twice as much memory between them the faulty memory chip/s are not being used. If that is the case and you push it to the limits where it is using all the graphics ram then it might surface again. Of course that would only be where a very high resolution is being used.

Is there any way to check if there is a memory problem with the Gigabyte card?
Everything seems fine so far but it would be perfect to get the most out of both cards.

Well you could try running some graphics burnin  tests and see if everything seems ok. Try at the highest settings you can.

I have been having the exact same problem, just got a new system with the gv-n580ud-15i and every now and then when im playing BF3 Beta the drivers will crash for an unknown reason.
i have read that there might actually be a problem with the core clock, apparently it is not to reference standard and is default set to 795MHz and a power supply around 1100W would be needed for it to run stable..im not sure if that's right or if there's a way to test it, any thoughts? but like u guys i would really like to get this thing fixed

btw i am running a thermaltake TR2 800W PSU

To be honest I would doubt that any single card would require 1100W of power to run even if it isn't quite standard. Norrmally that would be plenty for three or four cards.

Are you sure that this problem isn't just an issue with the beat of the game ? Maybe it would be worth trying to run some other software and see if it still does it.
