Unlocking Radeon 6950 to 6970

Unlocking Radeon 6950 to 6970
« on: August 20, 2011, 02:27:16 am »
Hi, I was inspired by many movies about unlocki Radeon HD6950 to HD6970. Today I tried with my Gigabyte card and... I get artifacts and sometimes the computer crashes. I made a backup of the original BIOS but I can't flash it back. I deleted the drivers and now I'm not even able to install them back. While trying it crushes again.

Could someone help me run my card again?

Hi

The ability to flash thew BIOS of your 6950 to make it a 6970 was only applicable to the first few cards as they were tha standard reference cards and were the same apart from the BIOS. This soon changed and even on the few cards that are still the same physically it has been locked out now.

You may not be able to retrieve your card as you have tried to reflash your original BIOS with no luck already. You could try returning it to the manufacturer but as you have invalidated the warranty they might just turn it down or make you pay for the repair.

You shouldn't play with things until you are sure that you understand what you are doing. :-\

If I turn down the clocks it works.
The main problem is that all of the flashing programs are not working.

Now I'm trying to get it work from Windows 98's console. I just wonder why it flashed at the beggining and I can't do it again...

I doubt it as they aren't stupid. They can check to see what has happened.

If I write the application that automacly flashes the card and you are not able to stop it and rename it to Catalys new drivers plus make a nice story?

I'll tell them that I got a virus that flashed my card. If they wont beleve me I'll send them the virus.

Somehow I don't think that will work! I also suspect that they do run anti-viral software and firewalls etc. I don't think they will be swayed by your threats to be honest. ;)

No, no, no! It's not a thread, if they wont belive me that I got a virus, I will say that I still have it on my hdd so I can send them so they will analyze it.

I have nothing to loose.

How lucky you have a card with no reflash your original BIOS tried to get could no longer afford. Your partner for manufacturers trying to come back, but the warranty is void as you turn down, or you could just pay for the repair.
