Compatibility?

Hi I have a problem

GA-H55M-D2H Mother board
Palit Ge Force GTS 450 Graphics card
8 Gb Ram
500Gb Hdd

I have loaded Windows 7 Pro onto my PC, and unfortunately the PC would not connect to the internet, and Information from the Tiscali technical help line said that the drivers were missing for the Network Adaptor, so I contacted my PC builder who said that the drivers were on the Gigabyte installation CD, I then inserted the CD and reloaded the all the drivers.
Having installed the drivers again, I still get the message “ Incompatible “ implying that the drivers supplied do not work with Windows7 Pro, Can anyone tell me if this is this a known fault with the GA-H55M-D2H board and Windows 7 Pro? And if there is a way round it, cos I need to get them working together as Win7 cost me a good chunk of my pension dosh  :(
Regards Robert.

Hi and welcome.

The trouble was that as you summised the buiilder didn't load on the correct drivers and then you compounded the problem by adding everything on the CD. The drivers on the CD were no doubt older than the drivers that were installed as they presumably came off the internet. The poroblem with the LAN driver is that it is very fussy about all remnants of the old versions being removed before the new drivers are installed. You will have to try using something like Driver Sweeper to help you and then use the latest versions you can find.

Many thanks DM, to get online I have had to disconnect the drive with Win7 on it and reinstall XP on an old  spare 40Gb Hdd, which has taken me quite some time, I’ve never heard of Driver Sweeper, but if it’s free I’ll certainly use it.

So to get it clearer in my mind, your advice is to find the latest LAN driver and download it from the internet to a folder, (Sorry I’m just a little confused at what I’m actually searching for, will I search the Gigabyte site for a LAN driver, or the N-Vidia site)?  Then re-connect the Windows7 Hdd, and clean out the old driver with the Driver Sweeper program, rather than just finding it and manually uninstalling it.
And after that re- install the driver downloaded to the folder, which should connect Windows7 to the internet.

I think the driver now installed is called a Realtek PCLE - GBE Family Controller, and I also think I have seen a Realtek\LAN\Optimizer.exe both of which got the “Incompatible” message.
Regards Robert.

I take it that you have the original Windows 7 CD if you need to re install Windows (don't worry it is easy) ?

You seem to understand what you need to do ok. Driver Sweeper is free.

If you post what revision you motherboard is I will link directly to the driver for you.

Hi DM, being a simple sort of chap I can usually follow instructions, it's when people use abbreviations that fox me, when I was a lad chalky was someone called White and Flix were the pictures :)
I do have the Windows7 Pro CD as I have the XP Pro one, although expensive I wouldn’t be without them as the XP OP cd disc has got me out of trouble many times which normally I would have had to pay for.
After reading the manual for clues I found the Revision and on the board it is version 1.4 , and from the first page of the manual its > Rev 1402 > 12ME-H55MD2H-1402R.
Many thanks for your help. It’s most appreciated, regards Robert.

Assuming that you are running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit version then here is the link to the drivers. In fact you will need to enter your Operating System when you get there.

Hi again, I’m still stuck I'm afraid,  :( having downloaded the Rev1.4 and DriverSweeper I started the Windows7 hdd with the new D-Link wireless modem connected to a telephone connection and a LAN cable from the D-Link box to the PC and proceeded to try to install the new driver, the driver sweeper seemed to want to go online, and & as it couldn’t it failed, next I tried to install the driver clicking on the downloaded W7 folder which opened showing several files including two Data.cab files that my J-Zip would not open (though I'm not sure if I needed to open them) I found a Setup.exe which did nothing, so I clicked on > CPSetup.exe which showed a "Realtech Ethernet Control box" with 3 options, 1st option Mod was not available, Repair had a spot in it, and the Remove option was blank, so I clicked Repair which ended in a message " Realtech Network Controller was not found- If deep sleep is enabled- Please Plug the cable" ( ?? ) no idea what this means.
Next I re-connected the XP hdd with the Sagum modem which (will go online) and tried again but I didn't try the Driver Sweeper as I though that I might be in more trouble if it killed all my drivers.
I clicked on the W7 folder and on the CPSetup I got the message that "This version is for Vista Only"
For any more pointers I will be most grateful, regards Robert.

I am afraid that youi lost me there somewhere but I get the general idea. Try downloading the drive first and save it somewhere like the desktop.  Then run Driversweeper and remove the LAN driver. Next run the new driver setup routine using the previously downloaded file.

Hi DM thanks for your understanding, I am sorry for writing so much dross  :) (I get carried away) this time I have downloaded the LAN driver + DriverSweeper to my D-top, although when I previously tried to open the LAN driver : it said that it was for Vista only, which is odd as the folder has the icon W7 under it.
I have installed the DriverSweeper and there is no LAN or Gigabyte or anything Realtec mentioned in the list except for Realtec sound, there is however an Intell chipset and a Nvidia chipset mentioned, so I'm not to sure what to click on to clean, many thanks Robert.

Hi again
I have tried again to install the Realtek LAN -811W7 motherboard driver, unfortunately when I click on install.exe I get the message "This version is for Vista only"[/i]
There must be a driver somewhere, I can't be the only one using Windows7 Pro with a Gig GA-H55M-S2H board  ;D
PS, can anyone tell me what Smart6 is for, and if I need it?
