fan power maximum at mobo header
« on: August 29, 2011, 11:04:58 pm »
Hello,

I have a GA-Z68-UD7 and I have some rather heafty 120mm fans that I would like to plug into my motherboard. These fans are 1.3 and 1.4 amps so I am a bit leary about plugging them into my motherboard without knowin the maximum power rating for each header. I am just nervous they will draw their full rated current and blow the header or worse the whole board. Does anyone know where to find that information? It is no where to be found by me in the manual I have for the board or in the online manual.

Thanks,
M

Hi and welcome.

I am afraid I have had conflicting information regarding the motherboard headers both from company sources. One said 1 amp max the other told me 3 amps max!  ???

Personally I always use a dedicated fan controller as I have seen several boards with burnt out motherboard fan headers and don't like to risk it. Also I find i can get better control that way.
