P55M-UD2 and SSD drive

P55M-UD2 and SSD drive
« on: August 31, 2011, 06:27:34 pm »
Will my P55M-UD2 version 1.0 with F11 bios work with SSD drives?
I  plan on adding  2 - 120gig as RAID 0 then partition 80gig for the OS and the rest for apps.

Thanks

  Welcome ysottot

to your first question ....Absolutely!........and the second..........yes again but!........make sure you have a good clone/backup routine going and I see you having very little trouble beside.........in Raid 0 .........you will loose Trim support across the array..... there a a few workarounds to this issue namely "Garbage collection" which works in Raid and does what trim does in the system idle time..there are some manual cleaning options as well........"PITA"...............(Pain In The Ar*e)............research the brand before you buy..... they all do it a little different...........OCZ seem to be the market leader with the Raid based SSD market..........of course ....this is only an opinion....MINE! ;D

Intel are working on a long term solution to include Trim within Raid, but no road map has yet been released.

The only thing I would add to Allan's post is that you don't want to use the Marvell controlled ports. Just in case you are not aware they are no good for fast drives especially RAID0 Put them on the Intel ports SATA2_0 and SATA2_1. They are the fastest ports on your board. ;)

OK so I got a 240 gig OZC Agility 3 SSD. Tried to restore from a backuop and all I get  is "Loading Operating system" hangs there. Tried a standard install of Windows 7 and still hangs at  "Loading Operating system" I'm plugged into the Sata0 Blue. Also tried the White sata0.  When I boot from my Acronics recovery CD and select Windows, It loads Windows OK. Any suggestions?
Board is  P55-UD2. Bios f11

Do you have the "Acronis Plus Pack" installed along with your Acronis 2010/11 ?

I have just answered your other thread. Please try not to double post as it can be confusing.

I expect it is a case of boot priority in the BIOS but I have gone into a bit more detail in the other post.
