Thank goodness I just switch My PC on & off when not required. From what I've read odd
things happening in sleep state that are very complex. Things are moving far too fast &
nothing gets sorted. All that happens is something new comes out to create yet more
problems. I quickly found out USB 3 had to be dumped on X58. With all problems you have
to start at basics & simple tests as each PC has different software & hardware so not
always a miracle answer. Politeness & patience is usually the best solution or bin it &
go back to smple PCs !!!  ::)

Yes I would have to agree with you there Tinker. The pace of change in our industry is just too much at times and things get released to market without enough testing because all manufacturers are trying to beat the others. It is the price we have to pay I am afraid for the innnovation that is happening all the time in PCs.

The main trouble is that it is always the customer who pays and also beta tests everything in the wild.

Another angle/slant is the Plethora of items a Motherboard must be compatible with and still function as designed ............. stricter policing or tighter policy by JEDEC would alleviate a lot of the problems Gigabyte face in implementing High end , stable platforms with all the bells and whistles  .....

You have to ask yourself how does one brand of memory work perfectly in a Z68 board but brand "Super Duper X" fail to even post..........if all memory manufactures are following JEDEC specified spec to acquire a license for distribution for  a given product...... how has "Super X failed or who failed "Super X" ....

Tighter criteria put forward by JEDEC would see higher compatibility across the industry  .... and reduce my workload substantially.

In one sense Allan it would be good for the customer if there were a governing body that overlooked
the whole industry. As a novice & there is such a thing then they are not doing their job. I read recently
that a lot of problems are being caused by using uncertified memory. Even to the point that memory is
being made to suit certain chipsets. Having read a recent returns form done with test results, displayed on
this Forum was disgusted with Gigabyte on the test being done using only two sticks of memory.

I've run an X48T-DQ6 for probably well over three yrs. Only problem to start with was PSU died. Had it
repaired as irreplaceable. Then I doubled memory using extra slots. Expensive DDR3, next thing constant
freezing. Rather than waste a lot of time, purchased more memory double size  using 1 & 3 slots only.

The GA-EX58-UD3R was an easy board to program & appeared very stable but...intermittant memory problems.
never been used apart from progamming. Expect I will get that back with a bill for no fault found. !!! I notice
with all the recomended memory from Gigabyte, 1 or 2 gb. Do they ever test their boards with full memory
capacity.

Apart from AMD, Intel seem to call all the shots even with M$. Look at the last disaster with series 6 CPU.

It's non ending, faster PCs are produced so then the software apps become larger to slow them down.
Win 7 was quite quick to start with then came the updates to beat the morons that put out malaware & hackers.

Quite true. I often think how much faster and smoother our systems would run if we didn't have to consider maleware and viruses.

As for the memory QVL I wouldn't ever advise anyone to use Gigabyte's website and always point them, in the direction of the manufacturer as they are much more encompassing and reliable.

What I didn't add in last post DM  Re returned board. It would run on 2 sticks of
Memory but problems with three. Often boards need testing to full capacity on Memory.

True enough Tinker. We shouldn't assume that anything works as it should without testing to see if it does. If you think about it how many of us know for certain if our motherboards will run properly if filled with memory. Most people just assume it will but never put it to the test.

Well of course Allan but only because you have yours all filled! ::) I know mine does as well but I don't have the banks all up and running at the moment. ;)

  Aussie Allan

I know Allan but it isn't just the support for the memory, it's the cost of it as well. Like now I could fill mine with 8GB sticks but they are just too expensive at the moment and the 4GB are at the sweet point. I couldn't afford to buy 8GB modules even though the board would support them. :'( :'(  Thinks...who wants some 8GB RAM sticks reviewing?

Yes Tinker....In one sense Allan it would be good for the customer if there were a governing body that overlooked
the whole industry
.....that exactly what JEDEC is supposed to do....but if even you don't know that , they seem to be failing in there primary goal

the test being done using only two sticks of memory. Sadly it's only been in the last 2 or 3 years that I'd say 40% of people fill all the banks now higher density memory is available.......most people still think and use 6 or 8GB of memory....so gigabyte follow suit and probably test with 4Gb

Agree to a point Allan but... our boards are triple memory so most people would go for 3x 2gb so
still at 6gb but in theory running faster & making use of Intel support. Same as using dual mode in past.
I purchased, after probs with other board & memory some more memory to test on it. Got 12gb at a
lower price than I paid for 6gb. 3x4gb. Though 1600 at 1.65v, JEDEC standard was 1333 at 1.5v. It was
Kingston Hyper X. Purchased similiar 1600 but at 1.5v 2x2gb for older X48T & that auto set at 1333 on
Win 7 32bit.

What I find strange with Intel spec is they recomend 1066 or less. The Kington Memory is now being used
for our X58A board. On that it ran at 1066 so for time being just upped x to 1333. XMP ups it to 1600 at 1.65v.
Until time for a bit more research have left at 1333.

The same thing happened to me with a G1.Sniper and BIOS F3. I've just updated my BIOS to F4b and now it works!

Try to update your BIOS to F5B (the last one for G1.Assassin motherboard)

Yes thank you this bios version cured my probles, and thank you for the imformative and genuine help..  I tried this and hey presto fixed..  Thank god someone on here has the brains and expertise to trouble shoot poor punters motherboard problems..  Your comment was genuine and very helpful you kinda put the moderators to shame..  Anyway I ahve a long haul flight in da morning so will be jet setting away all over this world and will be away from this computer for likely 8 months, I'll report back here on my next leave, home..  BON VOYAGE..
