GA-970A-UD3 - Startup Issues following a restart

Hi all I have the motherboard above within a system I have just built and strange behaviour is occurring.

If you power on the device from cold and it's been off for  while the system fires up and works fine I have run various stress testing tools on the system to see if anything fails? They all work until a cold power off and on again. Then the machine powers up but no video is seen on screen, hard drive can be seen flashing (OK so it has to be a faulty graphics card) Graphic card has been checked and this is fine :-(

I have done all the normal checks and can't seem to get it to work 100% of the time.

Anyone got any ideas or  seen this before?

Hi and welcome.

I must admit to not knowing the cause yet but this seems to be coming a more common occurance recently. I take it that you have reseated the graphics card along with it's power cables ?

When it is working try checking in the BIOS what the graphics settings are , like primary graphics adapter etc.

Another thing to try is clearing the CMOS.

See if there is a newer BIOS version available.

Tried all these :-( still no joy I was wondering if you 100% need the 8PIN ATX 12V I only have a 4PIN connector on the power supply I have. When the PC is working however it looks to have enough power we have been using the full power of the machine in a tool called burnit

I think I am going to send the MB back to the supplier for them to test it

The short answer is yes you need to have all 8 pins connected to the EATX 12v connection near the CPU. Without them even if it runs it will not be stable. Often if you don't have the appropriate conectors on the PSU it is because they are a "cheap and nasty" variety or very old.

What make of Graphic Card are you using?

As DM has already intimated, the choice of PSU does have a strong bearing on how well the system performs. What PSU are you using?
