Problem solved now - turns out it was a faulty PSU, I was watching internet video on Saturday and system just shut down, couldn't touch the PSU it was so hot. Swapped back to my 300w and am now running win 7 and 4 core, booted up no probs. I'm just running everything stock until I get a decent 500w + PSU but I know it works ok now
Thanks for everyone's help

Hi again,

pleased you seem to have found the problem and I have to admit that, the PSU hadn't entered into my thoughts with this problem.

That said though, there are a lot of problems that are due to PSU's not functioning correctly and it is more pronounced with older units from previous builds.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
