When is Fermi due?
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:13:34 pm »
Hi,
I can't seem to dig up much about Nvidia's new Fermi GT300 GPU...
Is there any clue when this will come out and if Gigabyte will be releasing their own version?
Wanted to see how the GTX380 is vs the HD5870 before I make my decision :P
Core i7 965 @ 4.35Ghz 1.37Vcore
6Gb G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3 @ 1740Mhz 8-8-8-20 1T
HIS HD5970 @ 800/1100
Gigabyte Extreme X58
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty
256GB M4 + 150GB Raptor
EK Supreme HF/GTX480/MCP655/EK Res :D

Hi,
Badbonji
All I could find out was this m8,
" When pressed further to give a date for retail availability of Fermi cards, Huang joked: "It will likely be on a Tuesday". and that was dated 30th sept
Now I think this is a good time to use our windup lazer wands, HEHE

From the articles I've read about it, the Fermi isn't near production capable at the moment and isn't likely to be around for review for a few months.
Most places seem to be pegging it for a Q12010 release - maybe about February. Hence the really slippy response from nVidia.

Its very late, its massive and its not aimed at gamers.

www.hardocp.com has alot of coverage on the ATI 5xxx series and Fermi.

On the flip side of this, many hardware enthusiasts are asking, where is NVIDIA? The fact is that NVIDIA has no products to immediately answer AMD’s 5800 series and it is our understanding that it will be late February at the earliest before we actually see a next-gen GPU show up from NVIDIA in the retail channel.

If you are waiting for NVIDIA to jump out of the GPU closet with a 5800 killer and put the fear into you for making a 5800 series purchase for Halloween, we suggest paper dragons are not that scary. We feel as though it will be mid-to-late Q1’10 before we see anything pop out of NVIDIA’s sleeve besides its arm. We are seeing rumors of a Q4’09 soft launch of next-gen parts, but no hardware till next year and NVIDIA has given us no reason to believe otherwise.

The ATI Radeon HD 5850 currently provides the best performance and feature set at the sub-$275 price point. The entire 5800 series is forward looking as well, supporting DX11. We think the ATI Radeon HD 5850 is "THE" next-gen video card that gamers and hardware enthusiasts are going to flock to.

Not when you can have crossfired 5770s for just an extra £20-30 :)
