[Help] Unable to update R587UD BIOS using VGA @BIOS
« on: October 01, 2011, 11:07:33 am »
I tried their VGA @BIOS software and it won't let me flash to latest F10_A bios for my card

It's this card by the way - GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - ATI - PCI Express Solution - Radeon HD 5000 series - GV-R587UD-1GD

The version says its F50 and I just received this back from RMA. The current version is F10_A and F8 on gigabyte official site.

Should I still use ATI Flash to flash back to 10_A but backup the F50 ? This is concerning me. Could the F50 be a 'special' BIOS for my card ?

Hi there,

Be careful about update the BIOS on your card. You might like to look through this: http://www.gigabyte.com/WebPage/40/index.htm especially the part at the bottom of the page about different BIOS versions which says:

Quote
GIGABYTE's graphics cards have different BIOS versions for one model. For example, VGA BIOS version F1 to F9 will be one series and BIOS version F10 to F19 will be the other series. So in theory, if your VGA card's current BIOS version is F3, and you see version F4/F10 available on the website, your VGA card will need to be updated to F4 and not F10.

This could well be the reason why the F10A BIOS is being rejected by @BIOS.

Yeah i had a look at that. Just for the record, F8 did not work for me either.

Sorta vary about flashing it to 10_A

F50 is some undocumented one dated back to 2010 according to radeon bios editor

Date/time 10/19/10 06:10
String - 113-C00801-011
Version - 012.019.000.008.000000

If I were in your position I wouldn't risk attempting the BIOS update. But I would get back in touch with Gigabyte Technical Support and ask them what the situation is.

Just submitted a ticket to technical support on gigabyte.com

I linked them the thread to here, we'll see what their response is with regards to the F50 changes

Similar issue here.

My card - GV-R587UD - 1GD  Rev 1.0

Trying to flash from GV-R587UD-1GD F8 to vga_bios_gv-r587ud-1gd_f10_a

Im doing the exact same using the flash utility and i get the same error message as the original posts screenshot.

The reason I'm wanting to flash this card is because its getting the GSoD, sent it back under warranty and it ran stable for 3months of LIGHT gaming and now im geting the same issue.

Basically about to bin the card but thought i'd give this ago because this BIOS release is only a month old.

Are these just bad cards? or am I the only one thats had enough of this card =\

Again the BIOS/firmware version that you are trying to use is probably for a different series of card. F8 doesn't normally follow on to F10A or otherwise.

What ever you silly moderator.

I sent the card back under warranty once and they say they have given me a so called "new card".
After getting home have a look at it and its a referbished card, WHAT A JOKE! The whole card has been heated up on the chipset or what ever and sent out as new, rediculas. What kind of company does this.
Its as bad as the HP laptops with nvidia chipset issues, you heat up the chipset to "repair" them and they work for 2months if your lucky. EXACT samething with this joke of a card.

AWESOME customer care, just great. -.-

Now do your "moderating" and delete my reply because the truth hurts. Maybe someday Gigabyte will get there act together and offer refunds on such bad cards and this pethetic warranty.

If what you say is true and you are therefore not satisfied I would suggest that you email the Customer Care department and explain it to them.

By the way I am not in the habit of removing posts unless they really deserve it. Within reason you can have your say on this forum. If you have something to say and it is the truth then everyone should be able to read it.

Thank you for the PM, I do appreciate it.

You can't do it as F8 bios is for VGAs with Samsung memory while F10_A for these based on Hynix - it's written here:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3355#bios

And they are not compatible.
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

Yes runn3R that is exactly what I tried to explain several posts ago. I think a lot of people do find it confusing though.
