Hi again Aussie,

i Actually tried 3 different PSU's one being a Corsair TX750 out of a machine running a gigabyte 870 board as well as another 750w and 500w PSU. There has to be something real simple that i am missing.

Hi

A while ago I asked you to remove the motherboard from the case and rebuild it on the workbench. Did you ever get round to doing it because you never posted back with the results ?

You have connected the four pin power plug near the CPU haven't you ?

Hi DM,

Yes actually when i got the replacement board i tried it that way first and the replacement board would not even power up. So, i am now on the third board and have built it out of the case on cardboard on the table and still the same issue. as i mentioned to Aussie Allan it has got to be something real simple.

Tech support mentioned the optical drive being the issue and that is the only thing i have not swapped out. What are your thoughts on that DM i may have to go the way of Assie Allan and break out the Axe.

WHat am i missing ???

No, you need to go back to the basics and build it out on the workbench. If it still doesn't work there then we will have to figure out why. Please do as I suggested before and maybe we can get to the bottom of it.

Some of this may seem like a waste of time but please just humour me and follow the instructions. Firstly post a list of your hardware make and model please. You can put it as a signature at the end of your post if you like.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard form the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory/graphics card and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and mouse and try and boot. The system should try and make a beep or series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

Ok, so i still have the Mobo on the table not in the case, unfotunately i am at work now and not in front of it. the Parts i will be using will be as follows

mother board: GA-G41MT-USB3 REV 1.3
GPU: Using on bord video or can use GTX460
PSU: Corsair TX750w
Memory: Corsair Vengance DDR3 1333 2x2bg sticks Dual channel Or can use GSKILL RIPJAW DDR3 1066 2x4gb
Processor: Pentium D 930 3.0GHZ
Can use a 120gb or 250gb HDD SATA

Not sure what the opticle drive is can also swap out if needed.

If we can figure it out i have a nice Worth Mayhem Softball bat waiting on the side lines to take a crack at it.

Well after talking to GIGABYTE tech support, they think it is the CPU even though it works in another board.

Have have you checked the CPU socket ? If not it could well be a bent pin or two. Follow these instructions to check:

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

That's good but you will need a good light and probably a magnifying glass as they are tiny. Post a couple of high res macro photos and we can give you our advice on it.

I got the same problem. same board and guess what? D processor .
Go disable  cpu features from the advance bios feature. Intel speed (called c1e and the c2/c2e) step must be disable to instal windows its a bug of D proc.
after instalation done (first boot 2) you may activate back. good luck!!!
