Problem with ram slot on motherboard P55A-UD3R
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:47:36 am »
Hey guys, I'm having some difficulties with a ram slot specifically being DIMM Slot 2.

My OS is Windows 7 64-Bit and I have been running 8GB GSkill F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH kit x2 and I haven't have any errors, I decided to clean my pc after 6 whole months of collecting dust and rubbish and now that I've put my ram etc back in, if I put a ram stick into that slot, it will read the memory but it won't accept it as an "Enabled slot" and I'm not getting any errors at all. I have not dropped water/liquids or anything onto the ram slot itself.

Can anyone help me out please, this is really important and I really need 8GB ram.

I've also had the motherboard for around 7 months now.

When I put a ram stick in slot 2 while having all 4 slots filled with 2GB each, 1+2 work, 3+4 wont work, when I take out ram slot 2 all the other slots: 1 3 4 work.

Hi and welcome.

I guess the first question is how did you clean the motherboard ?

Did you use any anti-static aids ?

Have you entered the timings and voltage for the memory manually in the BIOS ?

Nah I didn't use anti-static aids, I just done a quick vacuum of the dust area's, I've done this many times before and my computer has been fine afterwards. I've also reset the BIOS back to optimized and fail-safe and both do the exact same thing.

EDIT:

Sorry, I meant I used compressed air and cleaned up the dust with vacuum, I didn't have direct contact with the motherboard + vacuum.

I can only suggest that either the slot or the module is faulty. From what you say it sounds more like the slot on the motherboard. Make sure that it is 100% clean and the contacts are not damaged at all. If after that everything still doesn't work in that slot it would seem that the motherboard has been damaged by static.

If to say that it was, is there a way to repair/fix the motherboard without having to buy a new one?

I suppose that it would depend on exactly what was wrong/damaged on the motherboard. I would suggest that yiou contact your local GGTS and see if they can help you at all. Good luck.
