AMD/ATI HD6870 or nVidia GeForce GTX 560?
« on: October 08, 2011, 12:08:47 pm »
As subject states I am wondering which is better (gtx560 without "Ti" in its name)? I prefer nVidia because of Physx, Cuda cores and of course better drivers for games (Yeah, I like playing games and it's actually a main reason for buying a card :D ).

I'd like if all of your comments were unbiased and objective because I want the best bang for the buck.

I browsed on my own and both of the cards are very similar in both performance and price and it seems that only my subjective side will decide on what to buy but I would still like to get second opinion.

Thanks

I would say that on the whole the Nvidia cards have a slight edge on performance but the 560 is not a match for the 6970. You would have to go for at least a 570 to be on a par.

Personally I prefer the AMD cards as they are more stable, cooler and quieter. I have been running a 6970 since they first came out and haven't had any problems mrunning any game at full specs. However I have just updated my monitors now to an eyfinity setup with 27" Iiyamas and one card couldn't run at full spec on Crysis 2 in full mode. I have just managed to get a matching card on Ebay so I am hoping that should make all the difference. Luckilly I have a spare full cover waterblock for it.

Sorry I just re-read your post and saw it was a 6870 you were comparing.

I've just put a 6870 in my son's PC for him and he has manged to O/C it to 1GHz on the GPU and 1200MHz on the RAM with default voltage and he is very impressed with just how cool and quiet it is.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

I just finished reading it... First, excellent review! Second, Heatmaster 2 is a sweet thing! Not cheap but it seems it has everything you could possibly need...

Glad you liked it. It was a lot of work for such a small board. ;)

Regarding the 6870  to be fair they are a good price too. I was very tempted when they first came out to buy two and crossfire them.
