Windows has detected that your computer's performance is slow
« on: October 12, 2011, 03:32:40 pm »
OK, I'm not sure why this is happening but ever since I changed from an ATI 4850X2 to a pair of Gigabyte 6770's I have been getting this message appearing.

I have tried to track down the cause of the problem but have drawn a blank and I wondered if anyone else had any sensible suggestions as to the probable reason why this is happening.

My current sytems specs are:
Chassis: NZXT Tempest Evo
Mobo: GA-990FXA-UD5 (F5 BIOS)
PSU: Corsair HX 620 Watt Modular (also happens if I use a Gigabyte 800 Watt Odin PSU)
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T BE 125W
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Air cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Black LP CML16GX3M4A1600C9 4x4GB Modules (16GB Total) running at 1600MHz
GPU: 2 x Gigabyte 6770 (GV-R677UD-1GD) Crossfire linked but not running Crossfire mode
Monitors: 1 x LG L1715S & 2 x LG L194WT
Sound Card: M-Audio Delta 1010
SSD's: 2x 60GB ADATA S511 SATA 6Gb/s (RAID0 Array with OS installed here)
HDD's: 2 X WD 640 Gig Caviar Black SATA3 6Gb/S, 1 x Hitachi Deskstar
DVD/CD: Samsung SH-223C SATA DVD writer
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB
Keyboard: Microsoft Digital Media Pro
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Retail)

Main Use of system: Audio Recording & Mixing and Graphics Design & Editing

And here are some images of the programmes I have installed:

This is a clean install, all drivers and programmes are up-to-date but this has also been happening when I ran with single drives in AHCI mode and with previous ATI drivers ( I have tested with 11.6 through to 11.9). I get the same message if I use the Crossfire Bridge or run the cards without it as single GPU's. Also the message appears when running minimal programmes, it's just appeared and all I have running are IE9, Thunderbird and I-Tunes but it can appear if I have different programmes running.

I have tried to track down the culprit by testing various software configurations but have now run out of ideas as to why this is happening.

Anyone got any ideas as to what to try next?

When the dialogue box shows there is a section on there for more information. What does that say ?

DM - It tells me to change the Windows scheme to the basic one to improve things.  :o

To be honest I can't remember exact wording but will make sure I check it out. I think it says something like insufficient resources. I did wonder if it was due to removing the paging file from the C: drive.

EDIT: Just had the message again....

Says about Windows Aero Scheme using most of dedicated memory. Only running IE9 and ITunes this time! Tried running the Aero Trouble Shooter but it said there wasn't a problem.

What about turning Aero off to see if the problem is still reported.

Have you still got a swapfile on another drive or is it disaabled completely ?

I get it either with or without the swap file enabled.

I think it might be a conflict between Thunderbird, ITunes and IE9 as it only seems to appear if I have all three programmes running at the same time.

More an annoyance than anything else and let's be honest, if I can't run the aero scheme with my setup, who can?

Roll back IE9 to IE8 or even 7!...... Adobe site is full of people bitchin about how IE9 stuffed up several things including shop performance and crashes.... apparently this was the fix.

IE9 only seems to be a step forward in Micro$oft's eyes, nobody elses. I tried installing it and had problems so uninstalled it again. I have since installed it again now due to usefullness in faultfinding etc but I can't say I like it.

By the way anybody running Windows 8 here ?

Personally I like IE9 and have actually switched back to using it as my main browser of choice.

Now ITunes, that's another story and if I could find something decent to replace that and still play all of my media then I would be really pleased.

Personal choice I guess ..... i think Fox is the winner ..... most nasty code writers target IE ..... hence Fox!

I used to use Firefox and swore by it but recent updates have been less than perfect that's why I am wondering if the real culprit of this issue is Thunderbird which has also had fairly frequent updates recently.

Mmmmmmmmm! if you can do without it for a day or two (iTune)......might give you the answer ....... then go hunting for a replacement if it's the culprit!

OK, it's probably not Thunderbird as the message appeared whilst I was posting a reply on the forum and Thunderbird wasn't running.

Actually, I find it pretty funny and, as I said previously, it's more of an annoyance than anything else, but I would like to get to the bottom of why it keeps appearing.
