785g Crossfire

785g Crossfire

For the longest time I thought my Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H (http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3138#fq)
board supported Crossfire X, seeing as how it had crossfire printed all across the box and had 2 PCIe slots.

Well now I've done some more research and apparently the chipset only supports Hybrid crossfire...(should've read the fine-print, huh?).

So here's a thread asking anyone with a 785g board, or any relevant knowledge on the matter, for assistance. Would it work in crossfire with 2 cards? I was specifically thinking of mating a pair of 6850s. Even if crossfire did work...would the x4 lane speed bottleneck the card in any way?

My one glimmer of hope is this (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1548881) thread, where a user in my exact situation was able to run Crossfire successfully, but I'd need someone else to comment on the matter before I buy 2 graphics cards.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The person to speak to is Absic, our AMD moderator Guru ...... I would say he's off-line till the morning now and the crying fits should be over by then .....had a bit of bad news re Bulldozer ;)

One thing I can comment on is x4 is enough bandwidth for the second card ..... here's a really good piece applicable to you that should cheer you up somewhat if Absic says that they'll work together in the board....

Hi there,

I have to say that this is not something I have tried on this motherboard but in theory it should work.

Of course, both cards will only run at X4 and you will be unable to use the other PCIe slots on the motherboard, so bear this in mind if you have anything in the PCIeX1 slots at the moment.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm currently running a modded 6950 and I've just decided to stick with it for now.

When you're finished with "Now" ..... you may wish to consider getting rid of the hassle  of 2 cards and all the little problems that come with it.....

combine what you would spend and buy something like this.........

Only takes up one slot too!
