No LAN connection w GA-Z68XP-UD3

No LAN connection w GA-Z68XP-UD3
« on: October 13, 2011, 03:03:36 am »
Installed the GA-Z68XP-UD3 in my CyberCooler case over the weekend.  Most everything seems to be working OK except..  after installing several updates my LAN connection no longer works.  I can't figure out how to get it back.  Windows 7 x64 diagnostics say "The network cable is unplugged" but swapping cables with my laptop yields a working laptop connection but no mobo connection.  I'm at a loss.

Do I need to RMA the GA-Z68XP-UD3?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.   Thanks.

Did you try to reinstall the LAN driver of this motherboard again? Please download the latest.
Are you sure it is your motherboard and not just your DHCP server which has not given you an IP address?

I did download and install the latest version of the LAN driver (motherboard_driver_lan_realtek_8111_w7.exe and mb_driver_lan_realtek_rtltool.exe) from the Gigabyte web site.  DHCP and other switch functions are working fine on my other devices (this laptop and Vonage phone).  I don't believe Windows would give a "The network cable is unplugged" error message if it were a DHCP issue, and LAN was initially functional on the GA-Z68XP-UD3, before I installed the latest BIOS and driver updates

I appreciate the feedback.

Running the Realtek Ethernet Diagnostic Utility - everything fails:  Register, MAC loopback, PHY loopback, IRQ and FIFO tests.  Dang, I hate having to go through the RMA process, disassemble, wait, reassemble, rebuild.  Meh.

Two very common driver issues which are related of sorts.....1) LAN and 2) USB3 .... where there related is .......

Extremely sensitive to any reminiscence of the drivers that were previously installed ......All , ......and I mean ALL instances must be removed...... Revo uninstaller is perfect for this job.....hunting through the registry .....looking and finding relative files and folders ..... once done.....even go to the trouble of a boot to make sure it's all gone before the install of the new drivers off a memory stick.

Well, something's changed - not sure it's progress.  The installer for the Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver reports that "The Realtek Network Controller was not found"

Not quite sure what to make of that.

Anything different is progress with the PC god ;) .... I don't have your board ..... do you have any options in BIOS to turn LAN Controller on or off ?

And two, .... try running the diagnostic utility again and see what it throws up  this time.

It seems you have the driver installed correctly now but there's a glitch ??? ....Hardware or conflict maybe

There's another thought......what's device Manager reporting?

Looks like there must be a hardware conflict.  Diagnostic Utility now reports Register, MAC loopback and PHY loopback as good, but ITQ and FIFO fail.  MS System Information shows Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller with an IRQ of 4294967291 as "OK" and nothing related to that IRQ in "Conflict/Sharing".

Device Manager says "No conflicts" in Resources tab

Mmmmmmmmmmm! I'll tell you who is pretty good with LAN.......PM both ,Absic and Dark Mantus and ask them to have a look at the entire thread ...... I feel where almost there but Audio and LAN.......not brilliant on were this is going......Make sure you point them to ITQ and FIFO fail. ............but would be interested in the final answer

I didn't keep a checklist, but to the best of my recollection:
  • BIOS
  • Realtek Function Driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip
  • Intel INF Installation
  • Intel Management Engine Interface
  • Realtek LAN Driver

Downloaded them from Gigabyte site.

Not sure if this is related, but I also have an issue with audio - the L and R speakers don't get signal, tho center and surround speakers do.

Greatly appreciate your time and insight, Allan.  Hope to be in Melbourne in January.  Cheers.

Good you posted the second bit, .... but for the life of me I can,t find (or remember) the significance of........... Realtek Function Driver for Realtek Azalia

I think this is related to the speaker issue and from memory possibly the LAN as well ..... there was a series of posts some months back that was very familiar to what is happening here and now...... but for the life of me ....... maybe the other guys will know where to put a finger on the posts.

Unfortunately DM and Absic have dropped off till the morning, .... I'll PM both of them to have a look in the morning sparrow-fart Tee Hee!

In the mean-time, and it can't hurt.......try dumping the Azalia driver and see if it affects the LAN after a boot .

Man I've been in the UK for 5 yrs now......Sydney boy, but would settle for Melbourne or even Tasmania for that matter.....Wow, must be home sick......It's one of the few places on earth where a head count is not entirely indicative of the population Tassie is.

No really it's a pretty good place to take pictures and I'm stinging to try out a new body where the sun actually shines for more them 8.6 seconds per day.

If you've never been to OZ before , ....you'll understand what I miss ;)
