GA-EX58-UD5 & Mushkin 3×2GB Radioactive probelms
« on: October 16, 2011, 05:23:23 pm »
Hello to everyone! My 1st post here.

I bought new RAM this week: Mushkin 3x2GB DDR3 PC3-12800 7-9-7-24 Radioactive. But there are problems.
My rig is:
Intel Core i7 920
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
OCZ DDR3 3×1GB PC3-12800 gold edition

When i install my new Mushkin RAM, system doesn't boot. I turn on computer, can hear fans spinning and that's it. Nothing is shown on display and monitor goes to stand by. Also i dont hear a beep, i usually hear few seconds after i turn on my pc.
I cleared CMOS and also i flashed BIOS to latest stable version (f12) i found on Gigabytes website. I did remove my old OCZ RAM as i don't have any intention to use it with my new RAM.

Should i take my RAM back to store and maybe try to exchange it for some different RAM ?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Have tried using Memtest: http://www.memtest.org/

Scroll down to Memtest86+ V4.20 (25/01/2011), you can put the software on a pendrive

Or see the Mushkin website:

http://mushkin.com/Resources/Support.aspx

There is also the Windows Memory Diagnostic software also and RMA information.

  Welcome 2theCore

First things first......put one stick into slot one (slot one as your manual states) and try and boot again......post back with the result

Thank you for your replies and suggestions.

I just did what Aussie Allan suggested. I tested all 3 sticks separately and result was same as with all 3 together. Computer didn't boot. There was no error message or anything, just fans started to spin and that's it. 3rd stick i tested i have installed in DDR3_2 slot.

I guess i will have to take this RAM back to shop and demand a replacement.

Thank you for that guide teknology9. But i dont think there is anything wrong with rest of my configuration since when i installed my OCZ memory back, system is booting and working without any problems.

Woooooo there big Fella...... haven't finished yet.... ;)

Should have put more info in first time round but was doing a roast :)   when you put them in one at a time ......did you just boot it and hope for the best.........or are you saying you can't even get into BIOS ?.....if you can get to Bios, you need to config manually (no XMP) at 9-9-9-27 @ 1.64V to start

I had a hunt for you and besides your post on various sites there is people getting them to fire up OK....Can't explain why it won't play ball with you

If all else fails you may have to recycle......to bad as I have had Mushkin the last 3 sets with zero problems.......and I'm running 24Gig!

I cant get into BIOS as nothing happens when i turn on computer. It turns on, can hear fans spinning and that's it. Nothing shows on display, no errors, no POST screen, absolutely nothing. Screen just goes to standby mode. Also i cant hear that "beep" that usually sounds before system starts to "count" RAM (don't know whats the name of that procedure).  All i can do then is switch it off by holding on/off button for few seconds.

That's why i didn't do memtest as it doesn't boot anything.

Well what can I say.......if you state that it will run fine with the other memory.......and it won't boot with 1, 2 or even 3 sticks of the new memory........It can only be compatibility

Should i take my RAM back to store and maybe try to exchange it for some different RAM ? ....Absolutely!......your grounds are sound for an RMA......1600 is nice (but expensive) 1300 is less then Half the price and to be truthful......you will not notice the difference.

Thank you once again for all the help Aussie Allan & teknology9.

Unfortunately i don't live in UK so ill have to check what will they be able to offer me instead of Mushkin.
I see they have:
G.SKILL Ripjaws series, F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM, DDR3 1600 MHz, kit 3x2GB, PC-12800, 6 GB
so i'll try to get that instead.

I will post what will they offer me tomorrow, so if you have any suggestions then just post it :)

Shame about the Mushkin memory though. Especially the Radioactive as they are really nice modules with tight timings and good for overclocking. I think they are maybe faulty as opposed to just incompatible as I have seen them run on an X58A board before with no problems.

Hello again! Here is little update and one problem i have with my new memory. Don't want to open new thread for it so ill bump this one.

I got replacement RAM earlier this week, G.Skill that i mentioned in my earlier post:
G.SKILL Ripjaws series, F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM, DDR3 1600 MHz, kit 3x2GB, PC-12800, 6 GB

And everything was working ok from start BUT i have this strange problem. Every time i turn on my computer for the first time that day it only reads 4GB of RAM and in windows system specs it says "Installed Memory (RAM): 6GB (4 GB usable)".

When i turn computer off and back on again it reads all 6GB of RAM, also in windows. And this has happened every single day till today. First time it reads 4GB, i turn it off, i turn it on again and it reads 6GB.
I guess i should do something in BIOS?
