z68xp-ud3 problem...please help!

Hi,

I just purchased the Gigabyte z68xp-ud3 motherboard along with i5 2500k and Patriot ram PXD38G1866ELK.

I experience the cold boot loop with my new computer although I didn't even oc my 2500k yet and just put the ram to suggested 1866 9-11-9-27 1.65v.  I think it shouldn't be instability issue.

I brought the computer back to the vendor. They told me the Patriot DDR3 is not compatible with the Gigabyte motherboard, and this causes the cold boot loop issue. They asked me to pay the restocking fee and change my ram to something that is on Gigabyte compatible list.

As per Patriot website, the ram is 100% hand-tested and designed for all p67/z68 platforms

Would you please let me know if it's true that this ram is not tested with Gigabyte motherboard? and it may have conflict with the GA motherboard to cause my cold boot loop issue?

Update Main and Backup BIOS to latest F8 or F9b.
Be sure to CLEAR CMOS and Load Optimized defaults.
Your RAM is 2x2Gb or 2x4GB?
For start memory set 9-11-9-27 with RC2 (VDimm 1.66V) or set XMP in BIOS.

my main and backup bios is F7f...
i saw the description of f8 and f9b is to just add the support 22nm cpu?

My ram is 2x4Gb

The fact that the BIOS updates only mention the added 22nm CPU support doesn't mean that they don't address other issues too. I would take ex58's advice and update to the F8 or F9b.

Patriot's memory configurator isn't exactly kept up to date so trying to check if your memory is compatible with your motherboard is another matter. There is no mention of the Z based boards at all.

You also made an error when describing the support of this memory. Nowhere does it state that it supports all P67/Z68 platforms as you posted, merely that it is designed for use on these. That is totally different.

This doesn't mean that you can't get it to run on this motherboard but you might have more trouble configuring it manually.

I wouldn't advise using Gigabyte's website QVL as it is very limited and doesn't list a lot of modules at all really. The memory manufacturers own website compatibility list is usually much better. It would seem highly likely that it is down to the memory.

i would try f9b bios - upgrade to this version and then flash backup bios with the contents of main bios as described in this post:
