gtx 560 ti crash when playing BF3
« on: October 29, 2011, 10:06:52 am »
hi

latetly after a little research i decided to buy the gigabyte GTX560 TI gfx card and also upgraded my pc to be able to play battlefield 3 on ultra and when i am playing, every now and then the game crash to the desktop :(  so...i googled for a fix and people talking about two fixes:

1:to downclock the core from 900 to 820 mhz which is like non oc 560.

2:to set the core voltage into 1075 and to keep the 900mhz.

poeple saying that the card came from factory with to low voltage settings to be able to run games under directx 11 and it is needed to set the voltage into higher value.

now i am asking if this is true and if so, why me as customer that want to have some fun with gaming after long day at work, need to keep working at home and fix issue's:(

thanks in advance
ran

Hi and welcome.

Firstly I would agree with you that you shouldn't have top do anything apart from instal and use the card. It is possible to use this fault as a reason for returning the card and getting a replacement if you wish. There have been quite a few problems with this series of cards and most are as you have already posted. The card itself is sound and it is purely the overclock that is the issue, so it is just how you want to deal with it.

well..every shop and ther policies, they can't fix it, cause there is still no fix but probably a firmware fix will come soon and will fix it for good.

what people do for now is isetting high voltage (1075) and using the old 275.33 drivers and looks like it works as workround.

i decided to wait for fix, i like the card after all, very cold and great preformance when it is not BF3 , but they will fix it, i am sure.

pikachupi  Also check that the game doesn't supply a fix if it is something to do with their coding. It maybe that BF3 will release a patch or something shortly.

Anemosha   It will depend on how long since you purchased the card and you country's retail laws as to what would happen if you returned it.

Same problem here with a GTX 460 OC 1Gb ( Model N460OC-1GI) latest bios from giga site ver: 70.04.13.00.01, after a lot of test and error (including Win 7 clean install) the only solution was increasing the GPU voltage about 0,025v with Afterburner. It would be nice a bios update from Gigabyte to fix this in almost all their OC models affected by this issue. Regards.

Hi Technics

I really can't say why Gigabyte don't release a BIOS update to increase the voltage on these cards as so many people find the same issue with them and it would be a very simple fix. :-\

GV-N560SO-1GI-950 ? prolly cause some of them are working with 1020 and some like mine for example crashes even with 1070 and clock downgraded to 850...and that supposed to be a card built with best selected components. Yeah right...

Got the same problem with the crashing, GTX 560 Ti here. Well the screen locks up. So basically what happens is that if I play the game at 1920x1200 resolution with textures high, shadows and effects at ultra, everything else at high. Game will crash in multiplayer exactly in 10 minutes! If I drop down textures to medium, shadows and effects from ultra to high. The crashing does not happen.

But the problem with textures being medium, is that the game looks a bit ugly. I am not used to playing my games with medium settings. Considering that Battlefield 3 is the only game that crashes and locks up when trying to increase the graphics details to high. I tried every solution but to no avail.
The game just gives up on you, no matter what.

The funny thing is though, single player does not cause me this problem. Only in Multiplayer it happens.
In Battlefield Bad Company 2, Crysis, etc all run perfectly smooth with no crashes/lock-ups.
Also my BF3 is running very smoothly with 50-60 frames per second. So the problem lies somewhere else..

Crashes for me too, same card gtx 560ti Oc - After about 5minutes, if that..complete system freeze!
Tried lowering graphics but no difference at all. Anyone with a fix please help. I  just bought this card the other to play this game.
This is very lame.  ::)

Don't forget that these two versions of the game are essentially totally different games. They were written and produced by different companies in essense. The name is about the only thing they share.

Still no solutions? I am having this problem. I am running the 290 beta drivers. When I downgraded to medium quality, I was actually able to play a round that lasted an hour. But just now, it crashed after 5 minutes. Will try the downclock idea and see if that helps. Ridiculous that I spend $200 on a card and it has this kind of problem. Am considering getting a different card.

The solution is to return the card for a refund, and buy something else. If you're hell-bent on buying another 560Ti, get one from eVGA, they release bios updates and talk directly to their customers on their forums, so you aren't left hanging like with some other companies.
