GA-Z68-A-D3H-B3 raid 1 question

GA-Z68-A-D3H-B3 raid 1 question
« on: October 30, 2011, 08:20:10 am »
Hi there
I have been in the process of making a raid 1 with two hard disk (each 2 TB, to be) connected to the 6gpbs ports. One HD has the OS (Win 7 pro) and other files in 4 partitions. The other is new without any data/partition even.

Now I read the manual and the XHD utility asks to backup any existing data. I, first can not backup 2tb data easily. Second, what is the purpose of raid 1 if the software can not create mirror without destroying the original data.  (What I mean, even if I do a clean raid 1, and one disk fails sometime in future, I can not just plug in another disk and move on!)

I did not attempt the raid, as I am still finding a good answer.

Any response is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't usually run RAID1 at all but from my understanding what you are talking about  is fine once the array has been made but at the moment you don't have a RAID at all at the moment. I would suggest steering clear of any of these bundled programs and utilities as they are often trouble.  Once you have your RAID1 array installed and working you can indeed replace one of the disks in the event of a breakdown or damage.
