Well I think we all knew that they were going to be the top end in both power and price but I do find that sort of costing just totally out of most people's  reach. Speaking from a personal point of view but there is just no way I could, or would, pay that sort of price for a CPU and I don't care iof it does have gold plated lands! ::)

I have never , or know anybody that has ever purchased an "Extreme"CPU......when at days end......the next one down the ladder will clock just as well with the correct cooling........Intel even know this .....this is why we now have a tiny bit more L2,L3 cache made available on the Extreme Dies.

But will it work to get people to folk out 200 to 300% more......I think not!

Hi All,

In the current economic climate I can't see may people purchasing a CPU costing that much.....unless s/he has won the lottery or a SME IT budget can stretch that much to include it within it's new IT strategy. It's a product, it would seem, definately aimed at a niché market going by the pricing.....and the Z68 socket aimed at the mainstream.

Huh!   All I'm talking about is the very top chip re 2011.......even the Z68 will become obsolete one day...... make no mistake X79 will be mainstream.....what chip you install will be up to you.

Yes  agree that the X79 based boards will become the mainstream for the power users as was the X58 before it. I wil be interested in the pricing for the lower end chips though as obviously this is where most people will aim for. It will only be the lucky (or rich) that will be able to install one of the prime CPUs but even the lower end ones should give a good account of themselves. Only hearsay at the moment but they are supposed to be excellent overclockers. ;)

I don't know what's in the water in Milton Keynes but my previous post concerned that present day situation for the consumer about to purchase a LGA 2011 CPU. Yes Al....the Z68 will become obsolete one day......yes Al the X79 will become mainstream one day.....and cheaper....but not in the short term.

At the moment, the short term, its costly...as your previous comment

Hi friends,  ;)

I see that it is nice motherboard. It promises beautiful bench I hope.

This is a XL-ATX form factor (345mm x 263.5mm). Compatible with 32nm 6 core processors.
Some have up to 7 (Seven) 4-pin Smart Fan connectors.

I imagine that prices will range from 200E to 300E or more.

Hi Dark Mantis,

Ahh, yes now the prices will be high, but I want it down 4-6 months after entering the commercial market.

Well let's just wait and see. I am sure that we all hope that the prices will drop by a large chunk but that is not always the case. It was a shame BullDozer wasn't more of a rival.

At the moment there is a choice of two CPUs and they are priced at just under £500 and £830. Either way a bit pricey for most of us.

Yes, I believe the cheaper one, 3820, will be available in Feb 2012.....that and a X79 UD3 would be good.
