GA X58A-UD3R V2.0 Hardlock/freeze

GA X58A-UD3R V2.0 Hardlock/freeze
« on: November 08, 2011, 10:13:06 am »
Hi guys

just been trying to find out why my computer locks up around a certain time of the day, which i find now is around 2-3am.

like this is not an annoying time of the day but still the system will just freeze/hardlock and only way to bring back is to reset.

my system specs are;

i7 950
GA X58A-UD3R V2.0 FGbios
6GB DDR3 G.Skill 1600MHz F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ CL9-9-9-24
OCZ Z850W 80+ gold
GTX 460 Asus DCU

i have gone through some technical support but only to find each company saying it could be some other component.

everything is set at stock speeds so ram is running at 1066 instead of the xmp profile.

just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to find which component is faulty.

Hi and welcome.

To be honest if it always happens at the same time of day it is not so likely to be a piece of harware more likely a program or some other piece of software. I would look through your system for something that is timed to run whilst everything else is asleep or something like that. Antivrus, disk defragger, disk indexer, etc. etc.

Hi,

Have you tried testing the RAM with memtest?

http://www.memtest.org/

Scroll down until you see Auto Installer for USB key...you can then install it on to a pendrive

1 stick of RAM in slot 1 and allow 10 passes /cycles for each stick of RAM, it may take a while but it will help you to eliminate one possible cause.

Ensure everything is seated correctly before powering on....safety first.

Hope this helps

To be honest technology I feel that if it was something like that it would happen more randomly not at the same time every night. :-\

wow thanks for the fast replies

i have tested memory with memtest but not like the way you have said to do it.

also about the random freezes, it will still happen but rarely at other times of the day.

I have tried tweaking with bios settings like increasing vcore but still it seems like no matter what voltage i give it it just doesnt want to stay alive at that time of the night.

I do have IDA shut down the computer everyday around the time but even with days i do not have the program on the computer will still freeze, as in the morning i find the system on and the screen is able to power on with a frozen image of my screensaver but nothing is responsive.

i have already had 1 board rma and got a new one but im just not sure if it is the board or something else.

and once i got the new board and did all the stuff to reinstall windows etc the system would still have the issues but at the time i just lived with it and it seemed to go away but now it has come back just wanna fix this up as it has been a constant issue.

It really could be many things, hardware or software to be fair.  With a lot of sleep and reawaken issues and power saving ones it is because the system isn't 100% stable. It often seems like it is but underneath someting isn't working as it should.

Well i am gonna try one more thing in a couple of days just got exams right now.

probably reinstall windows as i havent done that for a while. see if i can run the computer stable for a lengthy time then i guess it was something to do with old registry files that might have conflicted but ill have to see.

also here is a chat log of one of the things the intel tech guy told me i just think its weird

This seems to be related to a discrepancy between memory and Processor. This specific Processor requires 1066Mhz - 1.5 volts memory. We can also use 1333Mhz - 1.5 volts but the memory controller will downgrade the speed to 1066. Working over these specifications will cause some issues on the system as random reboots, the system freezes and many other problems since we are forcing the Processor to downgrade the speed and probably the voltage since most of the 1600Mhz RAM works at 1.6 or 1.65 volts. This may also damage the memory controller on the Processor voiding its warranty.

If you did the memtest properly with single modules then yes I would say you are fairly safe to assume that the memory is ok.

Hi,

Well if your other hardware components are fine you could go ahead with a clean install of the OS and take it from there. What are your current power settings? No pun intended!!! :)

from the win7 menu ive set things to full performance or whatever its called.

i dont allow it to let the cpu use any power saving or other things like shut the hdd off.

but yes after yesterday the same issue happened such a strange thing. i think the power saving had something to do with the freezes if i remember beforehand but now they have come back to haunt me.

gonna reinstall on friday as that is my final day of exams finally finished for the year hope to play games/watch videos without any of these annoying issues.
