Need to replace GA-MA785GM-US2H with current, available model

Hi, I'm using a GA-MA785GM-US2H. The first board failed so using this as a replacement. The problem is I'm down to two working SATA ports and now the USB ports are dying as well. I confirmed by testing with Linux LIVE CD. Ports don't work under both OS and happened gradually.

Chipset:
North Bridge: AMD 785G
South Bridge: AMD SB710
Sound:  Realtek 8111

This current board was a warranty replacement and at this point I want to buy a NEW motherboard, but do not want to have to reinstall Windows XP (32bit) and the programs. The new Gigabyte board can be ddr3 (currently ddr2). What current models of Gigabyte will work? I can install new windows drivers but again NEED to avoid reinstalling all apps and the OS.

I can keep the same processor (AMD X2) or use a different one - either way is fine.

What specific MB's or chipsets will work? Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I know you won't like this......but......and here goes.....you would find it alot easier, in the long run, if you did a fresh install of your chosen OS as this would be a better way to build your system especially with a new MB. Gigabyte have a wide variety of MB's which would suit your needs but it depends on how much you want to spend. Have you got any listed that you like?

Gigabyte have a wide variety of MB's which would suit your needs but it depends on how much you want to spend. Have you got any listed that you like?

You're very welcome Twinkle.....very welcome. I'm  thinking about upgrading soon, best advice if you choose to go that route would be to take your time do your research ask many questions and set yourself a budget. It of course depends on what you want to do with your PC as new PC technology gathers pace every day you want your investment to serve you for as long as possible.

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3154#ov  is about as close as you can get if you want current options.  We have 1 of these w/1090 - this setup replaced your exact board - I believe what we did to save everything was, remove all the drivers ( I mean all - this is important ) - turn the computer off ...... Build the new setup - we used the update option to reinstall windows ( keep current settings ) - then installed the drivers. We lost nothing. You may need to buy a new activation if your OS is an OEM, for me that's no big deal compared to the time it would take to restore all the data. I won't guarantee this method will work for you but it has worked for me many times. My office computer, GA-MA78GPM-DS2H to GA-MA785GMT-US2H to GA880GMA-USB3 = same HD. All 3 of these computers are in use the GA-MA78GPM-DS2H is an HTPC, GA-MA785GMT-US2H has win 8 on it with some of our apps - we're trying out touch screen & so far so good!

If you are looking to make a direct swap without doing anything - it won't happen. Example DDR2 to DDR3 boards have different memory controlers, NB & SB chips get some tweaking, all 710s are not equal...... the list is long
