I just set up a new system:

Gigabyte GA-Z86X-UD4.
Intel i7-2600k (o/c to 4.0GHz, no voltage increase, LLC 4)
Arctic EXTREME rev 2.0 heatsink
Corsair Vengeance RAM (16GB)
Win 7 Pro (64-bit)

In the BIOS, 1.21v is reported.
In Windows, Touch BIOS, Easy Tune, and CPU-Z all report 1.21v used.

CoreTemp reports 1.3661v.

Which is the accurate reading?  I'm hoping 1.21v.

However, I'm worried on temperatures:

In the BIOS setup, idle, I get a report of 29C.

In Windows, idle, I get 21~23C.  Ambient temp is 22C according to EasyTune and TouchBIOS.  33C with CoreTemp.

In Windows, under load (Prime95, 1 hour), I see ~52C in EasyTemp and TouchBIOS, but CoreTemp reports 61C (or for core 0/1/2/3, under load, 59/61/62/58).

Which is the accurate readout?

If CoreTemp is telling the temps correctly, is 62C too hot under load?

Hi thermie,

I understand your question. I'm just saying that each software has its own algorithms. So values displayed are are necessarily different.

Another point, the temperature is taken it in the center or periphery. It is understood that the temperature inside the core of cpu is not the same thing as on the side.

(I forgot to say, I am running v1.0 of Core Temp.)

Yup - Sandy Bridge's VID isn't accurately seen by CoreTemp.  I now feel much happier!   ;D

For now, I will accept the higher temperature load value (62C) from CoreTemp, especially given reviews of my heatsink showing it to be mediocre.  Maybe adding a better fan would help (except its integrated fan, which runs at 998RPM or less, is custom-fit, so I'd have to replace the whole HSU... :( )

62C, depending on where I look, is said to be high, but then I read this:

Therefore, 62C for 4.0Ghz is not all that bad...  if I can get up to 4.3 and keep under 70C, that will be better. but a 600MHz improvement with only a moderate LLC adjustment (up to level 4) is pretty cool...
