GA 870A UD3 + Raid + W7 = BSOD

Hi guys,

I am installing Windows 7 and making a Raid on two WD Blue 500GB. I am using Sata 0 and 1 with Sata Raid (bios)  and ide mode on 4 and 5 for two ide drives one with windows XP.

I used this driver : motherboard_driver_amd_sataraid_raid_8-series_win7\RAID_w7\W7 that i got from the GB web.

I can instal windows 7, but when i get it running for SO LITTLE time, it BSOD permanently till its unbooteable.

Is there something wrong with the Driver? I have been reading like to use Gsata? is there a problem with the sata slots for raid? Are the Gsata slower? i am making the raid from scratch when i install windows, not after.

AMD Phenom X6 1090 T
Geforce 550 Ti 1gb
2x2 GB Ram ripjaws gskill 1600.
700 TopPower PSU

My advice is to start basic. Use i sata dvd drive connected to  sata 4 or 5 in sata or ide mode, Use 1 stick of ram, video card, 1 monitor,just the very basic you can get away with even better if you put your windows 7 on a usb and boot it from that to install. Make sure latest bios is there and when you hit the f6 to go into raid build your rain name it with your name. have the dvd with raid driver on it. stick it into the dvd drive and load if off disk make sure it is the 64 bit driver.

Easy to do once you get the hang of it you cant load windows then install driver you let the windows install start till it comes up with a box that shows you your drives and it should be empty cause you built your raid already.

The put in gigabyte disk and load drivers, after they load and it shows you drive take out gigabyte disk put windows disk back in and load windows.

Is there any program i can run now from mi xp windows to check te memory sticks?

let me tell youu autotech that i installed the 32 bits windows 7 version, is there a probelm with it? i run 3.2 RAM and thats ok for me.

Hi there,

the best thing to test your RAM is MemTest86+ it's free and you can download it from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

It is an ISO image file (download the 2nd link on the page) after you extract the image from the ZIP Folder you can either burn this to a CD or run from a USB pendrive if you use the USB installer(download the 5th link on the page).

This programme works outside of Windows so is much safer and more reliable.

make sure it is the 64 bit driver.

sorry for re asking, is there any problem with the driver @ 32 bits windows 7?.
Can it be the two sata cables?

I'm not aware of any problems with the 32 bit version of the AMD RAID driver and I wouldn't have thought there was a problem with it or else we would have lots of reports on the internet.

You could try the 11.9 RAID drivers from AMD just to eliminate this as a possible cause and you can download them from here:http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#3

If the SATA cables are old or damaged in any way they could cause problems so it is worth while swapping them if possible.

Which BIOS Version are you running?
Which revision is your motherboard?
Have you checked that your Power Supply (PSU) is OK? If this is not supplying enough power it can cause similar issues.

Which BIOS Version are you running?

Have you checked that your Power Supply (PSU) is OK? If this is not supplying enough power it can cause similar issues.

i used the latest bios, updated it via @bios
my motherboard is rev 1.3 or 1.4
the psu is ok checked earlier.

That psu has 2 x 12v rails rated at 20 amps. Which means it cant push more that 25 amps on both rails at the same time.
Your video card under load can draw close to 20 amps yet you say your psu is fine. That leaves a max of 5 amps to run your processor and the rest of your setup and that is if you run it at max amp output on the PSU.

Your psu wouldnt last long under those conditions. So either you are not overclocking anything and never stress it to make it last or you havent really looked into the power requirements your rig needs.

It will give you appx size but remember amps on the 12v rail is important and single rail PSU's always do better than dual or triple or quad rail.
