Hi there and welcome to the forum and Gigabyte.

If you are careful, then removing and replacing the Thermal Paste on the Northbridge usually won't void your warranty.  ;)

The problem comes when you try to do this using a hammer and chisel and actually damage the mounting assembly or motherboard, then Gigabyte might reject any claim you make.  :'(

Well, then tank you.
Ideling at 60c but it's working fine.
I'll go do it now and return to post the result soon just in case someone is interested.
it's the GA-990XA-ud3 board by the way.

Edit: After knokking off the cooler using a hammer the computer screen gave a blue screen and the cooler don't fit any more so i pored some water to cool it down. After that when the smoke cleared i saw the cpu on the floor. what do i do now?

lol joke ofcorse. no it was a sucsess. the temp droped by maybe 5c

Are you sure you are using the correct thermal paste as I have heard the reindeer dung isn't very good!  :D

Pleased it seems to have gone OK and hopefully the water and smoke stains won't show if you have to return the board to Gigabyte.  :P

A good scrubbing will usually get rid of those marks but it is the hammer dents that are usually a dead giveaway!  :o

I do live far north but not quite as far as the raindeers lol.

But to be exsact the idle temp was 63 and dropped to 57c after applying cheramic compund(i order the silver stuff but this is what they gave me)

Is this still a bit high?

Personally I have to say that compared to my own system, I'm running the GA-990FXA-UD5 that the temps do see a bit high.

Of course, the Northbridge temp will be dependent on what hardware you have installed and I noticed a big drop in temp (over 15C) when I removed one of the Graphic Cards I was using. Also the temp can be affected by the CPU you are using and if it is running at stock or overclocked. Having said that when I had 2x6770ATI cards in crossfire and my 1090T overclocked to 3.8GHz my Northbridge temp maxed out at around 55C. I have just reconfigured my system with one card and reset BIOS to Optimised Defaults and the Northbridge is showing 30C.

I only run Intel systems at the moment although I have had AMD in the past but for idle temperatures they do seem a bit high.
